The US should try to put Ukraine in a position of strength where Ukrainian control of Donbas and hopefully Crimea would be the outcome of any negotiated settlement.

Victor Ukrainians are going to get hurt either way. They seem to want to be willing to fight for their freedom. Why should we allow Russia to subjugate and murder a country?

I think a real problem that stems from this is an inability for some people to evaluate things objectively and auto-blame the US for anything that ever happens. Like Biden has handled this conflict quite well, resisting the no fly zone that Zelenskyy is begging for, resisting sending in troops, repeatedly pushing for negotiations. Has anyone at Jacobin given him an ounce of credit for this? Nah the US are just warmonger imperialists who want to fight to the last Ukrainian.
It is not lying to evaluate the necessary consequences of your position. You oppose arming Ukraine, and to do so is to advocate for their subjugation and genocide under a fascist regime. There is no world where the world tells Ukraine sorry, you are on your own, and Russia suddenly sees how evil they are and goes back home.
