Walrus Quarantine Version 1 - Reveal Thread

Thanks, it was a lot of fun! I think people did a relatively good job, nothing was unlistenable or even particularly disagreeable. Not sure when category 2 reveal will be yet, hoping to get to it by Friday.

Greatest band of all time needs some representation imo (but maybe it doesn’t fit as it’s much more famous than the original)

The Clash were a great covers band

Feel I’m a strong contender to go 2/2 with the next category, maybe on a technicality. I welcome the hate.

Hell yeah.

Let’s see if this sounds works here. This was a weird TV late night show in Israel, but they are a legit band and were hosting different singers doing covers.

First one was the most commercially successful. I like the 2nd one if you can handle the accent.

Still need to sort out who submitted All Along the Watchtower and the Rod Stewart song.

I love the background rapping in this one.

A little disappointed that super well-known covers took two of the top three spots.

Not that I don’t like the songs, but it just seems kinda lame to submit stuff like that.

Second video in the last hour submitted with the OP-1. It’ll be the electric guitar of the next generation if they can get the cost down.

One of my favorite covers ever, partly due to the irony of a dude singing it.

My own fault for not penalizing for it, if I had maybe people wouldn’t have submitted them and/or the great second and fourth place songs would have gone 1-2. As constructed though I felt that the rankings were just, if unfortunate.

I didn’t know this was a cover, but it reminded me The Power Station’s cover of “Bang a Gong” was another good one from that era.

The Cherrelle version has an interesting video too. Song was written by Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis.

:) I was shocked to do so well. I can’t not pick All Along the Watchtower as a cover song category. Too good. The only other song I considered was Hurt by Johnny Cash - I swear!

Can’t really be disappointed in popular stuff doing well, given the OP that announced this Walrus.

Killing Me Softly With His Song would have been interesting because one could go with Roberta Flack’s cover of Lori Lieberman or the Fugees’ cover of a cover. If I were trying to win, I would have looked for an alt-rock cover of a classic rock song.

The good news is that there aren’t as many popular songs in the next three rounds. so those should be more interesting, and since most people ITT don’t listen to current music category 5 might be fresh as well.

@NotBruceZ do you want to submit for the last 4 rounds? Anonymization is dead anyway.

Agree. I hate the cover. Great original.

Pretty good cover that’s very different than the original
