Walrus Quarantine Version 1 - Reveal Thread

This could easily been on both categories

I guess anonymity is gone not that you all would have been surprised with my pick (Letā€™s call the whole thing off).

Well itā€™s supposed to be anonymous so as not to bias the judge (me) but it didnā€™t quite work out, so Iā€™m doing my best.

I could give you plenty of songs that fit both categories. This is a live performance by Carly Simon, who suffered from stage fright. I love how she and this song bring out a side of James Taylor that you wouldnā€™t expect from someone known for more melancholy music.

Also of note, Inez and Charlie Foxx, who did the original, were siblings.

correct answer:

Thanks for the reveal @mjiggy! A welcome distraction from the worst timeline.

This was my second pick that couldnā€™t quite overcome the sweet siren song of a J-Lo / Ja Rule trash collab. Seems rather campy these days tho? JTā€™s was fresh.

Initial impression of category 3: I wasnā€™t missing much during that time period!

Iā€™m not sure Iā€™ve played a single song yet that Iā€™m looking forward to listening to again.

OK while I was typing this I opened a song that Iā€™m enjoying, although I was already familiar with it.

You must not have gotten to mine yet.

I can guarantee that wouldnā€™t change if I was playing.

I blame the time period more than the individuals who submitted or even the artists who made the music. Sometimes you can only work with what youā€™re given. Shooting for a Tuesday or Wednesday reveal but itā€™s very much in flux. On the one hand I donā€™t want to listen too many times but at the same itā€™s going to be hard to come up with a proper ranking.

12-way tie for LAST.

On to category 4!

Also:

Based on Walrus OP, this should be DISQUALIFYING (unless it was mine).

Your submission from last category would have won this round handily after beating out duets that I actually enjoyed. Really having a hard time with these for the most part.

Donā€™t stress or feel like you need to listen to songs you hate 5 times each, imo. Give us a roast and move on, if you want.

Oh donā€™t worry it will not be five times, but it will be enough so I can feel confident in the rankings. Iā€™ve gotten through one full listening and now I need a break.

Why does everyone want to be roasted? In any case I donā€™t think any of it is like roast-worthy terrible, just exceedingly mediocre.

I donā€™t know if anyone is actually pining for a roastā€¦itā€™s more like, donā€™t overthink it. Feel free to say the songs suck and move on if that makes things easier. The last two abandoned Walruses didnā€™t do that. So I guess itā€™s kind of trying to preempt what has gone wrong in the past.

Also feel free to just ignore me and do whatever you want.

Someone must have sent a song from okay computer so just give him the all the points and move on.

Iā€™ll probably just run through everything 1-2 more times and hopefully get to the writeup soon after that. Hopefully other people will enjoy the songs more than I did!

Itā€™s actually been sort of an interesting exercise as I think this round explains some of my high school persona, in that I was only really into one type of music and thought derisively of people who liked other types of music. I feel badly for thinking that way because the people themselves were fine, but I didnā€™t like their music then and I donā€™t like it now.
