Walrus IV reveal Thread. Kingvaldo Collab.

To be fair “get the fuck out” was gonna be my reaction to any song you suggested because every song on the album other than Thing That Should Not Be and Leper Messiah is a classic.

Damage Inc. has an A+ intro but it becomes too one dimensional, too Fight Fire with Fire-y. I’m willing to compromise that Leper is not as good as the rest but it’s better than Damage Inc.

Exactly why I didn’t submit it also

OK it’s a reverse bomb I was thinking of:

Ok so apparently that’s the second half of Orion…

My mind is kinda blown right now.

Yep

the 1st half is nasty!

there’s a great react video of it here… when the realization strikes them 4:50 in. That riff is too good.

Without youtubing it (scout’s honor) that part is closer to like the 1/3rd mark, the half way point to me is at 2:18 when the more distorted solo begins. Checking now.

Checked it: nope, I’m wrong, it is the half way mark, mind also blown. I was also pretty sure the song was over 9 minutes long also but it’s only ~8:20.

What I’m saying is I’ve watched that clip a few dozen times mainly for the track. I always assumed it was the beginning.

Yeah, I mean, I thought I knew the song almost perfectly but I would have lost money betting that the part you linked started way before 4min in. And I remember the song as being longer, I would have lost money betting it was longer than Master of Puppets the song.

Dude I nearly broke my keyboard when they faded it out halfway through the last solo.

I probably would have started playing guitar eventually anyway but my avenue to it was that specific part in Orion, my friend’s older brother played a bit of bass and this was the one part in Metallica where the bass stands out melodically so he played it sometimes, and I was like that’s really cool, but what about those solos after. I’m guessing this was around 91-92 when I had only heard One on Headbanger’s Ball and Enter Sandman was becoming popular.

Objection your honour. This is not a mid ranking song, it’s clearly a first or last song.

Don’t think you needed to go that obscure here, if you get my drift.

That bass line was the reason I bought a bass. We had an all too brief relationship before I realised I had too many commitments (including getting an actual gf), so my bass took the place it was always destined to go - a corner of my cupboard.

You’ve got some catching up to do already after the shock result of me not wooden spooning.

This is encouraging me to go even further in future Walruses - Metal Machine Music next obv.
