Bert Jansch – Blackwaterside

Comment: Could play the guitar

Nice. I wasn’t too sure about his voice at first, but it grew on me. Pretty great performance. Should go look for a live performance. There’s probably some pandering here, but that’s not illegal!

The entire comment section is about Jimmy Page ripping off this tune, so that’s something to go rabbit hole someday.

I doubt I could even remember all the notes.

I’d say the next submission was the most daring.

The Ramparts - The Rocky Road to Dublin

Holy shit what. A really interesting choice…no one choir member is doing anything all that interesting or expert, but the whole is much greater than the sum of the parts. The collective action is expert. Neat.

Huh, I would have guessed Bert was you.

Lubomyr Melnyk - Butterfly (for solo piano)

Comment: Lubomyr Melnyk developed a technique he calls “continuous music” where he plays extremely fast notes that build a wall of sound that overpowers you. I wanted to enter a song called Windmills but it’s like 40 minutes long. I saw him perform it live a few years back and it was amazing. This shorter song is more accessible and has some of his fast playing in the middle.

Wow, this is really something. I’ve since listened to Windmills and a few others. It walks that fine line between virtuosic self-important noodling and being actually good music. Love it. This is exactly what I hope to get from Walrus, a new (to me) artist with a deep back catalogue. Thanks.

I’m not sure where you think I mislead you? I did warn against rap, which is a genre that excels at a lot of things…attitude, lyricism, vibe…but not exactly in terms of needing to put in the hours to perfect the performance specifically.

Punk and rap are probably my favorite genres, but not really what I was hoping for here. :man_shrugging:

Edit: good vibes only :rainbow:

That was mine. For better or for worse, I did not really know this song before.

I was excited when bob pre-complained about Stairway as I knew Freebird was yet to come. First time I’ve ever wanted not my song to win.

Suggestion: I reveal last as I don’t have any chance to even come close to placing.
