Totally agree. Probably the first song I’ve enjoyed in this category thanks to the singing and instruments but the growling is terrible.

In 1st place scoring 12 points: Rebellious Angel by Lost Domain
(I am curious how the submitter came across this band. When I clicked on the youtube link it had ~30 views and 3 likes. As I type this I am personally responsible for 40% of the views and 25% of the likes on that video. As far as I can tell none of the members have been in any other band. Björn Strid –the featured male singer- is the frontman for Soilwork who have some prominence in the European metal scene. So that could have been the vector.)
The singer’s clear voice took some getting used to because I expected much rougher vocals. I don’t know if anyone can relate to this but this is something I frequently experience when listening to music for the first time. Imagine you take a sip and expect it to be for example orange juice but it’s actually a chocolate milk shake. My first reaction is to want to spit it out. There’s nothing wrong with the chocolate milk shake but it felt wrong because it deviated from my expectations. Once I have adjusted those I could fully enjoy the song.
The instruments gripped me from the first note playing a nice and heavy groove with some double-bass strewn it. That’s the way I like it. Assisted by the above mentioned Björn Strid the choruses feel powerful and elevate the song overall. I will find out if the rest of their sole album to date is just as good.

I wonder if there are 4 worse words to describe music than “technical death metal band”
I totally fluked this one. There was a noise folk band from ages ago called The Lost Domain, and after unsatisfactorily looking in my files for Walrus entries I gave up and instead started looking for bands I used to listen to but forgot about on spotify.
The Lost Domain aren’t on spotify (shocker), but Lost Domain are and I listened to that track on a whim and thought it was surprisingly decent, and the sort of thing Louis would probably like.
