Walrus Grab Bag 4 Reveal

In 8th place with 5 points … Bad Religion - The Devil In Stitches

Submitter comment: These guys have kicked ass for over 3 decades. This one is less punky as much of their other stuff, but it’s just as good.

Hard to go wrong with Bad Religion. I remember seeing a kid wearing that classic shirt with the cross crossed out and thinking it was the most bad ass thing of all time. Mid-tempo BR doesn’t do it for me as much as some of the older stuff, but yeah these guys are still pretty good! This one’s got a bit of a Social Distortion vibe, which isn’t a bad thing.

Dang, worst finish so far. Chance for the pack to make up some ground here.

In 7th place with 6 points … Rise Against - Hero of War

By all rights this shouldn’t work. Old-guy punks break out the acoustic for a military ballad with an ambiguous message. But it works. This one really grew on me. Nice one. Guy can sing.

In 6th place with 7 points … Rotting Out - Laugh Now, Die Later

Pretty good. I like the chorus. Not the most exciting riff, but kind of a nice simplicity to the whole thing. Yeah, good.

In 5th place with 8 points … Rammstein - Deutschland

Submitter comment: Rammstein has been good since they came out in 1994. Aside from the creativity of the music video, it is a song that truly shows the conflict that the band members have of wanting to love their country but being unable to justify it due to the its actions in the past.

My buddy used to sing Du Hast everyday in Grade 9 drafting class. I don’t think I’ve heard them since. Glad to see they are still going strong! I like the part where they sing, “Deutschland!” The wide-screen video and 3 minutes of credits at the end seems a bit much, but that’s kind of the point of Rammstein, I guess, to be too much.

In 4th place with 9 points … KMFDM - Professional Killer

Submitter comment: KMFDM has a lot of albums. A nice track here, as always with KMFDM it’s cool when the metal parts break in.

I’ve always thought of KMFDM as kind of awesome and kind of ridiculous. Not a bad combo. They are somewhat hit-or-miss for me, so I appreciate the submitter finding a good one here. Whenever I think of listening to this band, I see that they have 21 albums, all with the same album cover, and I get overwhelmed. So thanks to the submitter for playing curator. Nice one! Good riff!

In junior/ high school, kids said KMFDM stood for “Kill Me For Drug Money”.

Google suggests they were wrong.

The BRONZE medal and 10 points goes to the one and only … Neil Young - Cripple Creek Ferry

Submitter comment: “Cripple Creek Ferry” is a song by Canadian folk-rock singer and composer Neil Young. Young released the song on September 19, 1970.

What’s with the number of dislikes on this video? Odd. GOAT. Recent GOAT, for me. As a youth, I always thought of Neil Young as Dad music for geezers. Now that I’m a Dad geezer myself, I’m really digging it. I don’t know why the track is so short. More Neil! More! Could have been gold with 2 more minutes tacked on.

The SILVER medal and 11 points goes to … Sir Richard Bishop - Space Prophet Dogon

Woah. Never heard of this guy. Pretty cool. I like his hat. Wikipedia tells me he’s best known for his work in The Sun City Girls, who I have also never heard of. The beauty of Walrus! This is pretty great, and I like his weird-o floating strumming hand.
