Yeah, that’s why I listed Country Blues, Ragtime and Gospel. Alot of the stuff for that was recorded in the early part of the 20th century (Mostly 20’s onward). Some of that is “traditional” songs where the original is from like 1885 or of an unknown origin. And some traditional songs have been reworked by countless other artists as part of the rediscovery stuff from the folk revival in the 50’s/60’s. It’s all eligible.
I’m not sure if that answers your question. Do whatever you want really. However, anything recorded after 1989 is not eligible.
i think the issue i’m having and maybe skydiver too is that once you say the earlier the better, you make it clear that anything from 1989 would lose to a 1930. so the category is a bit strange to me. It’s like if i say a song about crime, but al capone will be better than other criminals.
like just set a time frame you actually do want and then judge the songs equally based on how much you like them. at least that’s how i see it.
Same. Gun to my head and I can submit a song for every category. For some categories I can even shoehorn some of my favorite songs in there and tell myself I have a shot at the podium. The categories where I wish I had better candidates are by eyebooger, seities and Yuv.
