I don’t care for the live version as much.
I guess that’s a boon for me bc obv jal does and I would’ve scored behind rexx. Feeling pretty lucky atm.
No, I hadn’t. I similarly dig this:

Courtney is also a strong contender for Greatest of All Time Mullet (Of All Time), the GOAT MOAT (if you will).
Dammit, I had a long week and fell aslepp during the reveal! I made it right until just before my own submission. If only I had stayed awake, maybe I could have staved off another middling finish!
Anyhoo, FridayNightMimosa’s loss is SaturdayMorningMimosa’s gain, as I’ll get to listen to these with jugs of coffee. Thanks @Jalfrezi and screw you @cassette for sniping my FKA Twigs song in that other Walrus and making me panic.
Not had chance to listen yet but looking forward to it, the winner especially sounds worth hearing.
Don’t think Albini is to blame for mine, sadly, he also produced their least guitar orientated album, but you never know. Am always slightly annoyed I didn’t know he’d posted on 2+2 till after he stopped.
I think his production on Rid Of Me sounds like he wanted to make PJ Harvey sound like The Stooges but it was far from a disaster due to the dark and intense songs.
With your song I loved the unusual intro so much that when it became a more standard thrash I felt robbed and blamed the producer.
Yeah, that’s fair criticism of the song. Obviously I enjoy that part, but I did wonder if it wasn’t just a big noise if it didn’t push your exact buttons. I’d say check out the album before that one, The Power Out, if you liked the intro and outro, but may as well investigate stuff your actually enjoyed first!
I listened to it again out of curiosity and thoughts of… did I get it totally wrong/should I have given it more spins/are the guitars really too high up in the mix?
There’s definitely a really good song in there trying to get out.
Don’t you find the vocals a problem especially with this production?
As much as I am looking forward to exacting walrus revenge on cassette, I have to say your last few submissions I have listened to have been great and well-deserved podiums.
First place song was also awesome but I’d probably listen to that genre myself.
Thanks! I’m glad you liked them. Hold onto that revenge-wish. You’ll get your chance, I’m sure.
I like the way it sounds, but one thing Walrus has taught me is I don’t care much about vocals. I also remember getting that album and being quite surprised by it. The previous one had quite a varied sound and pretty clean & clear production, but that one is quite relentless with repetitive, loud guitars. For a long time, though, “repetetive loud distorted guitar” covered everything I listened to.
Just listened to your female vocalist submission and that one was great too.
I like the part where she goes “YAHH AHH AH AH AH NAHHA AHHA YAHHHH OBROUGH GOUBROURH BOURHRHH ROUHRHRH BROURH”.
Give me a good rolling beat and a fun lyrical gimmick and I’m happy. I am a simple man with simple musical needs.
I thought this song was pretty good myself
It’s called a Femme Mullet
Thinking of starting the next reveal in maybe 5 hours.
During my work day and before the Super Bowl? Yes please!
