their cover of “Running Up That Hill” still one of my favorite songs of the past decade. Superior to the original.
I’m in. It’s my worst Walrus performance but it’s been great. Thoroughly enjoying not facing the soul crushing horror of another 1 point defeat.
I am Pauwl
Also had to spend a day in hospital Wednesday, made a playlist if all the instrumental selections, and really enjoyed listening to so much new stuff.

“(official entry starts at 3:41, but I would recommend watching the whole thing)”

I would hope this was entered by someone who said “Fuck your “Placate Pauwl” category! I was at that game and it was awesome!!” To which, I would say “fuckin’ A!” . It is a good anthem. However, this is a music contest. I’m not a fan of crowd singing. And that first song is kind of … .
This actually surprises me because I would’ve bet a lot I’d have been the entry with 1 point.
Damned I hoped it was you because then I wouldnt finish last.
I’ve got no idea if I pandered or not. Not really expecting many points
Can’t co-sign that*, but it’s not bad. “In the City” is probably my favorite Chromatics song, and I would’ve thrown it in for sure if I knew Pauwl liked it. That said, I think I still have a chance.
(* - it’s not even the best Kate Bush cover-- that would be The Futureheads, “Hounds of Love.”)

LCD Soundsystem - All My Friends
“I don’t know our judge particularly well, but I was an indie rock junkie back in its 00s heyday. This is a song that’s widely acclaimed among the Pitchfork bunch, but fairly so; I think it’s one of the best songs of the decade, fully deserving of all its accolades. (And I really hope I haven’t misjudged our judge’s tastes.)”

This isn’t bad. But, standard vocals over the repetitive notes didn’t really do anything for me. Sorry.
No I don’t.
I don’t get you, man. I submit one song that elicits a strong response in me, and you say it’s too strong a response. I post another that does the same, and you describe it completely mechanically.
That’s the beauty of walrus - a perfect demonstration of how no one really understands anyone else.
I even picked indie rock because he mentioned it specifically in his OP!
Cherry might be my favorite.
I love LCD Soundsystem (I think I even submitted something from them in a previous walrus). They have a decently unique sound, I think, compared to other acts that came out around the same time.
I’ve given up on trying to win Walruses. My main goal from them now is to hear new (to me) music and possibly show others some things I like that they might not have been exposed to. It’s the journey, not the destination and all that…
Their instrumental that accompanies Ryan Gosling in the first 5 minutes of Drive is a moment.
I didn’t really expect to win, because I didn’t know anything about OP, but I am surprised that several of the songs I picked did as poorly as they did.

Veruca Salt - Seether
"I know you like guitars. I think you like the 90’s. You probably know this but on the off chance you don’t maybe it’ll be your thing. My first ever concert was BushX in a stadium when I was like 10 or 11 years old. Veruca Salt opened and blew my mind. Much better, more fun, and even more 90’s than the headliner ."

I grew up in the 90’s. But to be honest, most 90’s music all sounds the same to me now. I liked the video. They’re dressed all 90s. Glycerine might have ranked higher ;)
Pauwl obviously a terrible judge as indicated by my ranking but I’ve really enjoyed the music that was submitted to this walrus and i haven’t even listened to most of it yet. Great job everyone (except Pauwl and cassette unless he wins)!
You’ll get used to it.

Chris Rea - Looking for the summer
"The whole evening I was listening to music up and down to find something that might meet your taste. First I checked wikipedia for “beach house”. Ok what the fuck is dreampop? Hmm George Harrison? I know him but no song on the album that apparently belongs to this dream pop category. Checking the other bands. No luck dont know anyone and I dont pick a song I wouldnt listen to myself. So after checking the other walrus and your category I just randomly picked the song that seemed the most dreamy. :D "

Thank you for doing research. I’m sorry you had to do that. This is a pleasant song. Nice guitar sounds over a chill rhythm. I like the video alot. Very peaceful. Good entry.
