Fml I watched too much AOE2 EW Ladder the last couple days. In April is a redbull sponsored event in London with the final being played in the Royal Albert Hall where the first gets 50k. So the first 4 seats are won through the two week ladder until next weekend. Just amazing with the live updated ladder: AoE II Companion
Picked up FF tactics remaster, the ivalice chronicles. Few hours in on hard mode, it looks like they made a ton of balance and quality of life changes. Spell casting is a lot faster now, lots of minor things like parry can affect spells now (which I think is new), overall spellcasting feels way stronger but I feel it misses more. some meh classes in the original like dragoon and samurai have been buffed.
Of course none of this matters because Iām just gonna powerlevel a Calculator and trivialize the game like i always do, but the qol stuff is big, particularly seeing turn/spellcasting order.
If youāve never played tactics it is worth picking up. fantastic story, thereās voice acting now, gameplay is peak, game is very challenging and sneaky long. Probably my favorite title in the final fantasy series
Dragoon was elite in the first, you could go off the map and not get attacked and then strike anywhere from above.
Maybe I am misremembering but I remember it sucking compared to the other physical attacker classes, particularly ninja. I havenāt got ninja unlocked yet so maybe this is still the case. Itās attack style is basically like an archer, except yea, they leave the map.
Chemist is way more overpowered than I remember it being but that could just be a me being 20 years older and wiser thing.
on chapter 2 now and really enjoying it
ff tactics can be one of the most unreasonably difficult games if youāre playing blind. the depth of min maxing is nuts and the game scaling and traps it throws at you seems to suggest you should think about these things. This is what Iāve always loved about the game but you get to a point in the mid game where youre like - fuck it, you wanna scale unreasonably and put elevation and movement disadvantages in my face, ill just get an arithmetician with flare and black mage magic scaling and wipe out your bs every fight. and when you get there - the game STILL throws challenges at you later on. itās so good
it is a truly difficult game, probably my top 3 ff game. tactics, 7, and then 8. would put ff4 closely behind them.
there are really brutal midgame traps where you are thrust into a fight where a literal god and his demons wipe your party out before you can act and back in the 90ās you just had to be like āwelp i guess i have to start overā that isnt captured in the remake but the unforgiving nature of it hasnt been captured in any other ff game ive played and the remake makes it far more bearable. 10/10
Closest I ever got to cheesing stuff was using Cid. I bought a desktop for the first time in 20 years to begin catching up on some of the releases Iāve missed out on, but Iām going to end up playing this first lol.
Can you still max bravery and reduce faith to make all your guys nearly unbeatable by going into an easy battle with a bunch of squires(I think) and one time/mage guy to cast slow/stop on the last remaining enemy and haste on all your characters and then have your guys take turns using the skill to increase bravery while also using the skill to reduce faith?
I remember getting all my guys to like 98 bravery and 01 faith after like 8 hours of grinding and then the game being ridiculously easy after that as they took very little damage from magic or physical attacks and had massive damage themselves.
yes but you should not have to cheese like this
Picked up Bloodstained - Ritual of the Night and am liking it a lot more than i thought I would. I obviously loved Symphony of the Night and knew it was supposed to be similar and noticed it was rated just okay but I really love everything about this game; the simple leveling, crafting, music, just an all-around smoother SotN. But I am only about 20% in so things could change, I guess.
I had too difficult of a time getting into that game, the character designs weebed me out a bit too much
Karma: The Dark World
Pretty short dystopian horror game inspired by David Lynch, 1984 and Hideo Kojima. Very fun mind bending game. They have the exact red room from Twin Peaks at one point. Pretty easy puzzles etc. Most of the fun is trying to determine WTF is going on. Very Lynchian. I enjoyed it.
I really enjoyed this as well. I dont complete a ton of games but I did with this one.
Started playing Final Fantasy VIII. So Iām in some sort of high school, but Iām also a mercenary fighting in various wars, and also maybe trying to date people? (Oh, and donāt forget about planning the school festival!)
You havent even met Boobs McGee yet.
lol
and thereās rival highschools! Itās kinda like harry potter.
I tried playing that again the other day but they need a remaster for me to get back into it, the graphics were tough
I was stuck for an effing week on the gallows fight with gafgarrion in ff tactivs ivalice chronicles. good lord the difficulty spikes and random checks the fights put on you are crazy, but getting through that and finally unlocking calculator, ninja, and samurai has been nice. Got through that series of brutally difficult ācheckā fights in chapter 2 like the delacroix one (i knew that one was coming so i taught everyone holy).
Iām a little concerned about how i have zero plan whatsoever for ramza, who is a summoner/black mage. But one other guy is also a summoner/mage and is a lot better. Then I have the calculator who is starting to clap cheeks, a ninja, and a chemist that putzes around with whatever physical class I like at the moment, usually dragoon, which has been pretty good.
I think, I could consider making ramza a mime. the mime + summoner + calculator combo could be pretty nasty late game
I always stole his sword back in the day.
I got so sick of that fight on this difficulty i gave up trying to do stuff like that. I would often get down to the last 1 or two guys with my last few guys and just lose. My mages could one shot gafgarrion with holy but half the time he would parry it or kill a caster in the first turn so I had to have the whole party built to being able to just nuke him at the start, and then try to take out the time mages asap and pray they dont get a big Stop spell off. once theyre all gone the summoners can spam golem and the rest of the knights and archers cant hurt you
