I read all that and agree with both statements

Anyone (@jmakin ) playing WoW Classic 2.0? TBC I guess hits in January so I am back leveling a few characters in anticipation.

It’s wild how Blizzard just keeps doing the 2004 version re-release every 5 years and makes bank. Servers are very full.

I’m still playing WoW Classic hardcore. That’s my zen place for chilling out and grinding. Will consider classic TBC if there is a decent HC add-on/movement.

I’ve never played hardcore. How often do you die/reset? I’ve considered it but i would rage if I spent months building a toon out and got nuked.

Yah it’s definitely an acquired taste. I’ve gotten to 60 once out of I dunno dozens and dozens of attempts spanning dozens and dozens of days /played lol. It’s so unforgiving, and is (to me) the purest challenge. I’d regard hitting 60 in classic HC as my crowning video game achievement, lol.

But, it’s as hard as you make it. It’s a self-imposed challenge, and you can make it as easy (only fight green mobs 3 levels below you and just mindlessly grind until your eyes bleed) or hard (try to solo difficult quests, take more risks).

If you look at it like you’re flushing hours and hours down the toilet when you make the simplest mistake, it’s definitely not for you. But if you like vanilla leveling and the chill nature of it (even though it’s unforgiving, it’s meditative imo), it’s fun.

Even with that mindset though, it still HURTS when you have a decent run going and flame out.

My take has always been that past wotlk the game kinda sucks. Vanilla leveling is meditative like you say and i’m sure i’m not alone in having my zones i absolutely love grinding while leveling (stv for me).

Classic WoW leveling is the pinnacle of video gaming and I’ll die on that hill.

And you are very much NOT alone in thinking that Classic/TBC/Wrath was the ā€œrealā€ WoW.

I think there is going to be some kind of Classic+ unveiled over the next months to come. Some of the private servers out there did a lot to add content and enhance the vanilla experience without ā€œretailingā€ it. I think Blizzard has taken notice and is going to boot up some kind of classic experience that builds on it rather than just following the same expansion path to enshitification that retail did. At least that’s my hope.

wow became too toxic and consumed 2 years of my life, i wont relapse. I also die way too much to ever get into hardcore. honestly other than arena and raid planning, i was never very good at wow. also havent had a pc for 2 years now, purely console now. to be honest for content creation it’s not very good either so I just have no reason to play.

been playing a shitload of battlefield 6, might be the best war shooter ive ever played and my favorite fps besides destiny

well there’s your problem, gotta treat that nonsense like a single player game with bots that absolutely shouldn’t be interacted with

Getting a shaman to 60 on hardcore was a ton of fun. I had so many ā€œfunā€ deaths: Son of Arugal, that stupid town charter quest in Hillsbrad, Azurelode mine, died in the hillsbrad mine trying to save a warlock, and several others.

Unfortunately when I got high enough I stopped taking as many chances due to the time investment. I never Mara logged or anything like that, but I was way more conservative with quests.

Unfortunately when I go back home I won’t have a good enough internet connection to play a healer. I am terrified of letting someone die, so won’t be doing it again.

I will say my experience with guilds and raid nonsense has been mostly negative but the game is fun until you get to that point. Dungeons and leveling are not really hard but they are satisfying for some strange reason. Needing 10 or 20 people is just impossible to get everyone on the same page but 5 is very doable and almost always a good time.

it’s also something I have played so much that I don’t need to really pay close attention to it. Usually playing it in windowed mode with a couple tables of app poker games next to it

I will hopefully be able to post a blog about it someday but it was one of the most insane experiences of my life, geopolitical shit and managing 40 personalities that are probably on the dsm is the most difficult management ive ever done and makes managing any team after that feel easy, so i am glad for the experience, but holy shit the sweatier less casual players of that game have serious issues

mostly just raid stuff. i can play by myself and enjoy it. the game doesnt reward that, it’s a lot harder.

Yah that’s why HC appeals to me. Grind quests by yourself, try to hit 60 on a class, fail forever rinse and repeat. Id rather play minesweeper than doing pre-raid BIS grinding or raiding. Hit 60 on a warlock and logged out and haven’t clicked that char since lol.

I’ve never been able to make it out of the starter area on hc LOL

i’m terrible at the game. I tend to die a lot in most games. death is the ultimate adventure - dustin hoffman’s captain hook

I played WOW beta and saw it would consume me. The one time i let it consume was for whatever reason was Mists of Panderia. At least during that time I found Openraid, a website where you could register for a raid. Found a regular group where I could register if I was free that Wednesday night, but I wasnt obligated to play that Wednesday night. Sure we never got to Mythic until very late in the expansion, but I was happy to raid Heroic.

some of my best gaming memories ever have been from raids though

crap guild i was co raid leader and off tanking as druid in tbc. our guild was struggling with the content, particularly kael thas. our main tank was a delusional prot war that sucked and kept dying in the bubble phase of that fight, towards the end.

our first two kills I switched to bear and pulled threat off him (which shouldve been impossible with his spec) and tanked the entire last phase of the fight and when i got yelled at in mic i just yelled ā€œhe can take over if i die but i won’tā€ (the later tbc meta heavily favored bear main tanks but the leadership didnt believe it in and this guy ā€œonlyā€ played prot war. I also had slowly been collecting main tank gear in my off time selling my services in raids we couldnt clear to get my stuff, meanwhile main tank princess had been gifted everything).

I ended up main tanking the rest of the content and he quit over it, which was loldrama, but, I remember having so much fun main tanking the raid content. bear druid was just so fun in general in tbc and wrath. you could solo dungeons and i became enchanter to farm gold from it

Watching this makes me wonder if there would be any legs to an umpiring video game

I want an ump cam alternate stream/channel for live baseball games.

Kingdom Come Deliverance 2 is about to break me. The combat is so hard for me to get a hang of that it is killing my desire to play the game at all. There needs to be a practice mode or something. The tutorial is horrible.

Following up a bit after diving back in I think things are kind of toxic in a 2nd or 3rd level way right now. It’s a lot of olds putting dumb shit in barrens chat and then celebrating that BARRENS CHAT IS BACK. I’ve had a lot of fun. And holy shit vanilla is way harder than cata which is where i quit on my last wow classic binge.

I also learned SC2 is free on battle dot net. Which is awesome. It’s amazing how fast I remembered my build orders after 2 decades and all that. Too bad i’m old and suck at micro and end game shit. But i’ve had fun beating up on the AI and losing every game vs real people who I assume have actually played the game in the last 20 years.

Also my god the leveling on vanilla wow is slowwwww. If anyone is on dreamsycthe hmu.
