Are you Brendan Fraser in Encino Man?
played this again, i dont think it aged well. i wanted to try vr but heard it was implemented poorly
It actually seems good to me at what itās trying to do. I think part of the problem may be that so many newer games have incorporated Skyrimās mechanics and systems (and in many cases improved on them) that it doesnāt seem that special now. But it still seems to do a lot of things better than many of the imitators. To be fair, I canāt really evaluate how much it is cribbing from earlier games. Iām playing the special edition on PS5 FWIW.
Best part of Skyrim to me is the fact that you can ābuildā your own homes. Imo every big scale RPG should have this.
Where was I at one minute after midnight on 11-11-11? Standing in line to buy skyrim the second it released. Canāt imagine how many hours I have in that game. It was as impressive as Oblivion was disappointing.
i still like it and easily have 1000 hours in it despite rarely progressing past the first main quest (you literally can ignore it, lol). This version of the game is vastly better than the original - particularly survival mode, which is always an addition i like to these types of games, if not for the fact it disables fast travel (i like managing sleep/hunger/thirst but ffs dont make me run across a massive map like this).
one thing that always impresses me is the depth of interactions even with minor characters and actions you take having clear impacts on these interactions, no matter how seemingly minor - Iām not sure any other modern game has done this as well. the immersion it can induce is pretty impressive at times, especially for a 10+ year old game.
this is a hot take though but i enjoyed oblivion more. that didnt age well either though
Modded Oblivion was amazing. Skyrim also benefits a lot from modding, I would never play it on console.
So that fake trailer really wasnt that far off

Hey you, youāre finally awake.
The talk in the Elon thread about games with the most hours played made me think of the XCOM Long War Mods.
I saw XCOM 2 Long War of the Chosen had a pretty big update pushed out in December 2024, so Iām going to download it. Again.
Ooooooo, what was the update?
Oh wait - I know the fight youāre talking about. I destroyed that fight by accident live and I had some rando viewer telling me I had done it right but I didnt plan anything - I started the fight by confronting the magister guy at the top, got some check i passed, and managed to just teleport anyone troublesome down into the hellfire, which by that point i could spawn infinite necrofire with raining blood combos, so even the stuff that healed from burn would get gobbled by my archer at the top or stopped by my melee necro playing cover for the ranged. if anything got too hot, i would just cast death saves on the idiot npc. I was just accidentally prepared for that fight, I remember remarking it could have been extremely hard. I had to rez I think one time on a mistake but it was seriously like a 50 turn fight.
Skyrim quest design: hey, can you bring me a book from a cave halfway across the world?
yea and if you have the delight of playing on a pure hc run you have to run across the world to do that. ive embraced that playstyle over the years because it usually stops me from doing quests that are busywork, but otherwise seriously dont understand what type of player disabling fast travel is for. everything else about hc mode is delightful. fallout new vegas allowed hardcore mode with fast travel but then a particularly loud part of reddit prevented them from ever doing that again, seemingly
epicās matchmaking is so stupid. i ve gone like 18-2 in rocket league 3v3 rumble because i have good item mechanics and have been playing this game for like 20 years and it requires a lot of soft poker skills like quickly evaluating random chance things - got reported two games in a row for āsmurfingā in diamond 3 for like basically nothing, and immediately got put into GC rumble lobby where i absolutely do not belong and now everyone is yelling at me for being a diamond. what a lazy way to place people in matchmaking. got my champ tag finally though. once i fail here iāll be sent down to the diamond salt mines where the game puts me with actual smurfs every game.
My favorite way to replay dos2 is a lone wolf run. Thereās a feat that makes you twice as powerful if your party is just you or you + one other npc/person. Itās definitely a challenge but I actually felt accomplished when i beat it that way on the hardest difficulty the first time. Skill doesnāt often factor into CRPGs as much, but I truly felt skilled after I did that.
As for Skyrim vs. Oblivionā¦all the REAL gamers know that the winner of that argument is Morrowind.
As for me, Iām attempting an honor mode run at BG3 because I cannot exist in the real world right now
yea i dont blame you, i agree with lone wolf after realizing most of this run 2 guys were already carrying the team by themselves almost. a dual summoner lone wolf tactician would probably be my next attempt.
when I stream dos2 everyone wants to play on the team too as co op. I dont understand that. is that actually fun?
im about to go to the nameless isles but kind of losing steam since I have to fight the acolyte on bloodmoon isle, because I have all glass cannons talent (means all statuses go through armor, occasionally annoying) I get wrecked by his opening madness volley and I dont wanna respec everyone so Iāve been holding off. my team is so stupid op i nearly won anyway.
