EU4 has a billion mechanics now after 500 DLCs and it had a fairly steep learning curve before that.
Not that anyone was wondering, but quick follow-up. Iāve built the PC except for the video card, which arrives today. Got Windows installed and everything seems fine.
In addition to the above, I did Intel i5-11500k CPU, 16gb RAM, a 500gb M.2 NVMe SSD as a new boot drive and pulled three 3.5" HDD and two 2.5" SSD from my old PC and put them into this one (mainly so I donāt lose all my stuff - I now have to sort through it all). The CPU didnāt come with a heatsink, so I got an Arctic 34 Freezer eSports Duo, which was kind of a pain in the ass to install.
Spent a little more than I had planned on the 750W PSU, but it is highly reviewed and the salesman at Microcenter made some excellent points about efficiency and the quality of that specific brand (and since this is what powers the PC, perhaps cheaping out isnāt a great idea). Also spent a little more than planned on the case - LianLi Lancool II Mesh RGB w/USB C.
The case is REALLY nice - came with three front RGB fans (donāt care about RGB, but itās kind of neat), though it didnāt come with any exhaust fans, so I bought a few more (non-RGB to save a few bucks). Itās amazing how easy it was to put all the drives in - thereās a pull-out drawer for three of them and then you can stick the 2.5" drives in a ton of different spots. The one downside I can see, though itās not a big downside nowadays, is that because the front is made just for cooling, there is no way to add an optical drive or another USB/audio panel if you want one.
The two weakness I can see with the motherboard is no wifi, which isnāt huge, as I have a PCIe card from my other computer, but it would be nice, especially if the card gets in the way of the GPU, and only three case fan headers. Thus, I needed to get some splitters in order to add the other fans.
I turned it on and nothing sparked or exploded, so I figure thatās a good start.
lol - I just installed the video card and realized that both it and the motherboard have RGB lighting, so Iām kind of a legit gamer now. Thing is, that side of the PC is going to be up against a wall. Maybe the wall will have a cool glow or something.
Is ck or eu better? I quite like Civilization but not overly so and have been getting into 14-16th century European history. Just read The Verge 1490-1530, which was quite good.
Based on that, I would go with EU.
Biggest difference is in CK the focus is on yourself, your feudal system and your family in medieval times, while in EU the focus is on expansion and nation states.
I donāt think you can say which is better. They are different. I love CK but never got into EU.
CK is all about your character and dynasty. I like it because itās different from CIV. Iām usually not playing CK to conquer the world (there is no winning, although you can lose if you are left with no titles) but instead with a smaller goal. Itās also fun to spin off your brothers as a new kingdoms and see if your dynasty can take over the world.
Thatās not to say you canāt play CK to take over the world, but the fighting is pretty basic with very limited strategy (just amass troops to one giant stack and try to get fight in favorable territory).
Holy fuck, I reinstalled a game on my newly-built PC and let it choose the right settings. Checked what it came up with for graphics and itās all like āEpic, 100%, 100%, 100%, 100%ā

You get to kidnap the pope and convert your friends to witchcraft in CK.
Now all you need is a garish racing chair and some awful LED mood lighting in your room and you have a killer streaming setup.
Iām using a shitty chair that my wife literally picked up from the end of someoneās driveway. I keep finding flakes of the faux leather all over the house. The bottom has no support left, so have pillows on it to keep my ass from hanging below the chair frame.
The PC is in the family room because we originally wanted to be sure we could keep an eye on the kids when they were using it. Now I just donāt feel like moving it somewhere else. I can still be social if Iām playing, rather than holing myself up across the house.
Re: Civ 6. I won with every leader on Immortal difficulty on Rise and Fall. I occasionally play Gathering Storm for a change of pace from the dotas.
Well, Iāve won with Fredrick on emperor.
Havenāt played that much, but wondering if I would prefer a different game. Reviews for humankind werenāt that good. EU4 seems solid but steep learning curve.
So its beenā¦ 20 years since I was good at this game, but picking up Tekken 7 for almost nothing and logging on after a few drinks and destroying some scrubs with the same bullshit I did way back then is pretty fucking entertaining. Highly recommended.
I have lots of hours in Civ 4,5 and 6. I donāt think the learning curve is anything crazy and thereās a difficulty level for everyone.
Loving this
Seems like similar vibes to Loop Hero, looks fun
Anyone played Disco Elysium? Thought about buying it.
Its fantastic but HIGHLY dialogue/reading driven. Youāre gonna feel like you read a novel by the time its over. If youre good with that its 100% a buy from me. Fantastic game, awesome mechanics, great story. Dont expect to be overwhelmed by action though.
Complete sucked in to this. Lost an afternoon
