US Kills Soleimani in Airstrike

Pretty sure we let Kurds get killed and Isis members go free to have a fraction of that number “come home”.

Iran kills American contractor, America kills 2 dozen militia

Iran burn the embassy, America kills their most revered general

Maybe Iran should fold? They don’t seem to be winning the escalation battle.

Maybe Putin will pull his support of deals jk this was already approved by the Kremlin

Exactly. Whatever war Iran wants to have, it will have it at home. So it’s a lose lose situation. The worst case for America inc. is that we print more money.

Iran has been getting its proxy war on for years in at least 3 or 4 different countries.

FYP. They’re now going to fully support their Iranian allies ldo. This whole thing benefits them in a big way.

I’ve noticed that a lot on NPR. Some Trumpkin comes on and answers a totally different question than was asked, the host kindly asks the question again and receives the same answer, time runs out, host thanks Trumpkin for joining them, and we’re off to the next story. I always replay the scene from Rounders in my head where Teddy is trying to goad Mike into another game when this shit plays out. I feel so unsatisfied…

So far, but that could obviously change depending on how much revenge they sought. The point remains that it is lose-lose for them.

Worst case for Iran - the country is turned to rubble and millions are killed.
Best case for Iran - the US prints more money and thousands of Americans are killed.

Seems like a fold.

Compared to all of those conflicts for America in the last 50 years that were clear victories for them.

What does the Iranian government have to gain from conflict with the US?

I’m having a difficult time reconciling “America inc.” and “we”. Do they get to print more money before or after “we” bail them out again?

yeah, should have written they

not sure what you saying, the government will become less unpopular if they are unified fighting America? people are pissed about higher prices, war will only make that worse?

Par for the course. Totally standard.

In 1978 the war budget was $124B ($489B today). The war budget is now $738B. I don’t know how big the NSA was then, but now it reportedly has 50k people working there, probably a lot more with contractors.

The people waging wars for the US have won every war since Vietnam bigtime.

Same thinking as everyone has with Trump now or Trump was talking about with Obama in those old tweets. External enemies make things better for oppressive governments. Partly it makes them more popular (at least with the people who they need for support), but also it justifies crushing dissent. What’s required is enough support from enough people willing to do enough violence. War usually helps with that. Sometimes a regime miscalculates and war either proves unpopular enough that a regime collapses or support falls apart during a war that isn’t going well.

Yeah, I suppose that makes sense.
