I lived on this street until I was 5.

Politico reporter.
I guess this is an example of the “good posting” we should all be living up to in this thread.
I feel like there’s some mixing up of the concepts of “cause” and “blame” ITT. It seems like we all can agree that Putin being angry about NATO expansion and wanting Ukraine to be part of Russia is the cause of what’s happening, or a big part of it. But where the blame lies is a different subject.

This is accurate and a notable shift. I asked my mother (Russian Jew born and raised in Ukraine then emmigrated to USA) once who she roots for in the olympics and she said she couldn’t support Ukraine because she’s scared of the flag and associates it with Bandera. Needless to say she’s on their side now.
Putin is angry at NATO expansion is because it reduces how many countries he can fuck around with or conquer.
NATO expansion deserves zero blame or cause for this Ukraine war.
This whole shit reminds me why taking out Saddam was a bad idea in practice but appealing in theory. That guy was a maniac that loved brutalizing his people, invading his neighbors and threatening the world too. If I recall correctly, he was so nuts that he was claiming he did indeed have WMD right up to the last minute.
I have memories of talking with my dad about that. I was like if he doesn’t have WMD then why is he saying he does even as that is Bush’s main pretext for invading? And my dad was like that is just Arab bravado…
I’m grateful to those of you who spoke up for me. My only activity here in the past two months is what you see in this thread. Never was 2+2 moding so reactive and petty.
My latest post is about the big names from Kissinger to Chomsky who’ve warned since 1997 against expanding NATO because of exactly what happened in Ukraine. See the 2+2 thread.
Well Kissinger’s always been a voice of reason.
Dear Christ, can this fucker die yet?
Anyone know how effective the Russian vaccine is and whether it’s also mainly used in Ukraine?
After Russia sends in hundreds of thousands of troops, thousands of tanks, levelled every single Ukraine city to the ground, Noam Chomsky’s first lecture post Ukraine war will be about “NATO aggression”.
Because that’s the real issue right now.
The irony escapes them.
