This reminds me of “enhanced interrogation techniques” adopted by virtually the entire US media.
It feels like we’re hitting a bad turning point in the war for Ukraine. Russia is making more gains in the South over the last day or two and building up huge forces around Kyiv, meanwhile they are proving that they are willing to target civilian population centers and use weapons like vacuum bombs and cluster bombs on/near residential areas.
I’m not sure what the West can do to prevent that short of starting WW3, which seems to be off the table. I’m not sure what Ukraine can do to prevent or counter that, because bravery and resolve won’t stop it.
If Putin is willing to let his people suffer, I think he’s now on track for a bloody, horrific, drawn out victory. This is awful.
Cluster bombs do not concern me, Admiral.
I think that Putin’s intention may have been to carve off a piece of Ukraine every few years, but a bunch of stuff has convinced him that he won’t have the opportunity or it will cost too much, so he’s going for it all now.
Ukraine may be best off trying to trigger Putin emotionally in the hopes of inducing documentable war crimes, so that Western democracies can be pressured by their constituencies to intervene on humanitarian grounds in complete ignorance of realpolitik considerations. They just need to hold out long enough for that process to occur.
awesome patch on that guy’s sleeve
We all need to remember that wars often can last for years, not just a few days.
Maybe Putin’s strategy is simply to wait for the world’s attention span to wane before he begins committing atrocities, by which time we all will have become tired of the play-by-play of the Ukraine War and focused on the next shiny object.

Damn looks like Finland is planning to invade Russia. Putin and Bill Haywood were right.

If we hadn’t let you into NATO none of this would be happening. Thanks for nothing!
Balasynovych counted the oil depot as one of several important sites in Vasylkiv and she said the Russian military knew to hit it because of a network of covert agents present in the city. She said Russian agents had been active for a “minimum [of] one year,” blending into the community and posing as contributing members of society while compiling information on residents and “preparing maps” of strategic targets.
“He built a life” in Vasylkiv, Balasynovych said of a Russian operative, whom she said Ukrainian intelligence was aware of, but she declined to name him for security reasons. “He would bring bread to old people and worked hard to fit in and seem normal.”
When Russia launched its attack last Thursday, she said, the agent network was activated.
While her story could not be verified, it aligns with how Russia has operated in Ukraine for years, in an attempt to destabilize the country.

Fuck
Maybe but he doesn’t strike me as the patient type. And it isn’t just his patience that would be tried as this drags on. The pressure is far greater than any of his supporters probably anticipated.
It’s amazing how many five year wars were supposed to only last a couple of months, tops.

After Nixon, Trump, and Putin and much of history, we should amend the constitution so that naturally angry or resentful people can’t run for president. (I realize that would exclude some posters, but sacrifices have to be made.)
Putin probably doesn’t want someone to forget their briefcase right next to him.
So now Russia is straight up bombing the cities and indiscriminately murdering innocent people. This will probably result in them “winning.” So freaking depressing.
This is so horrific:

I missed that at first and rewatched and went to edit my post, but you are quick, I’m going to delete it now.
