Today, maybe, but there was a lot of this on D-Day that was incredibly successful. Obviously anti air capability has changed a ton, and going into a city is different than attacking a well defined, mostly one sided fortification, but it is hardly unprecedented to send paratroopers into contested airspace in the hope of getting an advantage behind enemy lines.

I still think that MAD has been a force for peace, and that having nukes you never intend to use is better than not, even if a madman does decide to end the world.
Pretty simple rule is never use them except for defense. If you’re going to threaten to use them in response to being stopped from invading a sovereign country, the next step is to just cut out the middleman and threaten to use them any time you want something.

Nuclear war isn’t something +ev to worry about. Even when it’s for a probably pretty brief moment not impossible.
