Not necessarily face saving, but an off ramp is if the Russian troops start surrendering. Or if Russia wins.
Right. And if everyone else has sanctioned him, then they don’t “agree” anyway whether he wired the money before they sanctioned him or not - i.e. they either freeze his offshore accounts, or if he’s wired it back home already, they just say “his creditworthiness is zero with us”. That’s sort of what I’m getting from this.
I’m sorta hazy on how this doesn’t trigger WWIII but I guess it’s kosher:

Social media is doing what it always does: distilling messages for maximum triggering effectm
That’ll hurt em
I don’t even understand what this is trying to communicate.
I’m beyond wondering. I’m pretty sure of it, although VFS’s posts give me the tiniest shred of hope.
Are there any predictit or other political futures markets with contracts on outcomes in Ukraine. I can’t even imagine how to structure the contracts. But I guess like something like “nuke launched” should be relatively easy to settle one way or another.
russia has their ridic propaganda but we’ve been getting a little here too, russia has definitely advanced in some places in the south and southeast even though they’ve been LOL in the main places which has been 99.9% of what we’ve been getting news wise.
Look if you give something it’s no longer yours, it’s theirs. Finders keepers, just for jets.
I’m not sure about this, but I don’t think this is how it works. I think wires are getting settled through a bunch of offsetting credits/debits in intermediary institutions, not some hazy global consensus.
There was a will russia invade ukraine one out there that I couldn’t bet on somewhere I forgot where (not on PI and boy was that some money I missed out on), PI doesn’t go there I think tho but I’d have to recheck.
The US has a long history of shipping weapons around the world and then not getting attacked in response
Like, SWIFT?
Yeah I realized after rereading I replied too early.
Looking slightly further into it (read: reading Wikipedia) it looks like Russia actually has ~$630 billion worth of assets and currency throughout the world that everybody but China is now saying they can’t have back.
I’m sure Xi will be like “cool Vlad, you can have some fighter jets on tick till payday, I know you’re good for it”.
I flip through CNN fox bbc and I get generals telling me how awful Russia logistically is and how tactically they made a comedy of errors.
Then I see pictures of what Putin did to Chechnya and how he can activate that with a press of a button.
I feel like we are smiling ear to ear with our top pair and hoping our opponent folds.

Feels like the amount of real-time updates we get each night has lessened with each passing day. Not sure if that’s indicative of anything. Each day around this time I start to get anxious about what the night is about to bring.
It’s already almost 4am in Ukraine right now.
