putin overestimated his chances to achieve the objectives quickly, and they don’t have the resources to achieve them through a war of attrition, or even a long occupation.

he can kill a bunch of people through rocket strikes, until it’s no longer acceptable for nato to stay away. the narrative is pointing towards this eventually.

holy shit

That was my twitter feed anytime I searched Ukraine news. It was just people saying Ukraine was nothing to Canada and Trudeau was Hitler.

Yes I am very aware of that. It’s not the same as firebombing the whole city all at once like KSR is talking about.

nexta reported that all cities are still under UA control. Kherson was taken back.

will have to look for any confirmation on Melitopol.

Amazes me how many cars are just driving around the square like business as usual.

That’s kind of what I’m saying. I don’t think Ukraine alone can stop a Russian invasion. They are putting up a much greater fight then anyone thought including Putin. Putin is now backed into a corner and He can say something just as insane as he is saving people from the nazis and start fire bombing Ukraine.

Very nice.

that was always the case. ukraine and russia have been at an impasse for 8 years during which ukraine could not push separatists back to russia. they needed greater military force to accomplish this.

now imagine if russia’s losses make it pull back to the pre-invasion line of contact, and maybe starts shelling over the border. VSU is absolutely going to go into donbass, maybe further to take out the grad or whatever else.

quite frankly, they are better than demoralized RU forces. they should recapture donbass, especially if it serves to take out something that’s hitting civilians.

I don’t think the Russians are demoralized. The attackers seem up for a fight, taking on dangerous missions like airdrops and recon in force through Kyiv.

We read a lot of pro Ukrainian stuff, but Russians get their news elsewhere.

russian soldiers are kept in radio silence. not allowed to carry phones. in ‘14 they put too much evidence onto social media and it all made it into ICC case.

I also get the feeling that this might fire back to Putins face in unexpected ways. Can you bet somewhere on Putin not being in office by the end of the year or so?

Yep predictit has a market. Seems like you can get 4/1 odds (+400) on him not being president by end of 2022.

can’t trade on predictit :frowning:

I don’t believe any optimistic assessment of Putin being in personal danger. That should have happened to tyrants 1000 times in history and it’s quite rare until the bitter end.
