After months of infiltration (since June 2025), the Russian army :
: began consolidation in Pokrovsk, Kupiansk and Vovchansk.
At the same time, it moved closer to Kostiantynivka, Siversk, Lyman and Myrnohrad. In all, the winter of 2025-2026 could see 7 urban battles.
As we have observed together for months, the Russian army has already been present in Pokrovsk since June, in Kupiansk since August and in the southern part of Vovchansk since September. However, as I have said on several occasions, presence does not mean consolidation. Indeed, most of these areas of presence were carried out by small groups of soldiers behind the lines (entered by weaving between positions or via a pipeline as in Kupiansk). Their mission is to wait for reinforcements, harass the Ukrainians and conduct in-depth reconnaissance.
At present, Russian elements are present in almost the entire city of Pokrovsk, around the railway station, factories in the northwest and south of the city. Does this mean that the city has fallen? No. We must now wait to see if a consolidation will follow and therefore a Ukrainian withdrawal from the agglomeration in the coming weeks or if the situation will remain the same.
You may very well have Ukrainian soldiers still present in the south of the city while Russian soldiers are also present in the north.
In short, an incomprehensible situation, far from the clarity of the last great urban battle in Bakhmut. In general, the situation has deteriorated again for the Ukrainian army in urban areas in recent weeks.

Here’s some stuff on the battle for Ukraine’s energy infrastructure. It seems like it is not going well this year, which isn’t a huge surprise given recent developments. Between USA not providing enough AD, and Russia developing new ways to counter Ukraine’s AD (and even things like Patriots), there is a lot of bad news and it’s pretty early.
There’s already been power outages for large areas, things like canceling metro lines or having cars running less often, etc.
