Ukraine Invasion 2: no more Black Sea fleet for you

I thought the US still abided by it despite not signing it

So I gather from Twitter

  • The Moskva’s radar could only look in one direction.
  • It was distracted following a drone in flight some 100 km inland from the coast.
  • A subsonic cruise missile would normally have little chance to get past a modern air defense system.
  • Bam, they took a blindside hit, maybe in a vulnerable spot, and couldn’t put out the fire.

Adding

  • The remaining Russian ships, some carrying land attack missiles, are now vulnerable because the Moskva would have been providing them cover.

I wonder if Putin is prone to telling bad beat stories.

Very on brand.

The last I heard, mines are allowed under the treaty if they are designed to detonate or disarm within a couple days of no one stepping on them. As of 15 years ago, the US used noncompliant mines in Korea.

on no, not times new roman.

lol times new roman sucks

That was actually interesting as I had no idea that there was a company that owns fonts. How long can they get IP protection for that? Times New Roman has been around forever.

Looking forward to a bunch of Russians posting in comic sans.

First they came for Times New Roman, and I said nothing… for Times New Roman sucks.

Then they came for Comic Sans… and all was lost.

yeah there are a lot of wars in russian history that come to mind as parallels. the winter war, the crimean war, the afghanistan war. but none fit quite as good as the russo-japanese war.

Two good podcast episodes on the Russo-Japanese War (although sadly neither of them mentions crocodiles or snakes IIRC):

Or instead of a srs biz documentary you’d rather just clown on the Russian Navy, this focuses on the worst ship in the Baltic Fleet. https://youtu.be/DCrAQFBUFlU
