You can read it, don’t care if you do or not

Lol what a fucking loophole

According to the source, some of the senior officials of the CIA determined that blowing up the pipeline “no longer could be considered a covert option because the President just announced that we knew how to do it.”

The plan to blow up Nord Stream 1 and 2 was suddenly downgraded from a covert operation requiring that Congress be informed to one that was deemed as a highly classified intelligence operation with U.S. military support. Under the law, the source explained, “There was no longer a legal requirement to report the operation to Congress.

Avoid Congressional notification of a potential act of war with this one weird trick!

This a rough draft of a Tom Clancy novel.

I did. And there’s no substance to it whatsoever afaict in the first two sections. Seems like there’s nothing in the latter stuff too. Seymour Hersh is old af now and has said some super weird shit his entire life, but especially the past decade or so. Declaring “this is what happened” based seemingly exclusive on an unnamed source and not much else makes nothing clear other than this fits your biases

It’s based on a source. It’s a pretty interesting read, and isn’t too long.

Edit: nevermind, of course that wasn’t an honest request

I mean… do you really believe this shit? That was the most bullshit part of it. That’s basic level conspiracy writing. Biden referring to how nord 2 wasn’t going to happen means they can do whatever they want now? Come on. They’d either do it off the books or not.

I thought it was as pretty decent fanfiction. Very descriptive.

An honest discussion… you made it clear what the strength of this article is. It’s nothing, and it’s from a guy who has had no problem publishing nonsense before and has gone with other takes like “Syria didn’t use chemical weapons” on its citizens and done deep and really bad dives into jfk conspiracy land

Of course I believe that the executive branch would use any loophole available to avoid notifying Congress of an action like this. That’s only consistent with the entire workings of the US government basically forever, so it isn’t a very far-fetched idea.

Do I believe this exact incident happened? Maybe? It seems to be based on a single source, but it also makes sense based on the statements of the players and the perceived motivations of the involved nations.

Your reasoning for disbelief is “because the US government said so” and somehow that’s not based on your own biases?

If we can agree that this substack is a single sourced anonymous story from a guy with a recent history of being very loose with the truth, then we’re in agreement. It almost makes SK’s post saying it was definitely the USA dumb.

And he did some other stuff too

Hersh first gained recognition in 1969 for exposing the My Lai Massacre and its cover-up during the Vietnam War, for which he received the 1970 Pulitzer Prize for International Reporting. During the 1970s, Hersh covered the Watergate scandal for The New York Times and revealed the clandestine bombing of Cambodia. In 2004, he reported on the U.S. military’s mistreatment of detainees at Abu Ghraib prison. He has also won two National Magazine Awards and five George Polk Awards. In 2004, he received the George Orwell Award.

If you go through life believing government activity is only real if there’s hard factual evidence you’re going to end up very naive.

No dude, it’s that it’s a single anonymous source from a guy I know as a shit writer going back to his jfk shit

Yeah he was great when publishing with a real editor. When he’s not it didn’t go great!

Because that’s what’s happening jal miss me with your bullshit

Yup, what’s happening is you have a very naive, even gullible view of global events. Glad we’re agreed on something.

Seems like an easy PsyOp to have one dude convince some old writer of some shit.

He can have the best intentions and be getting conned. It’s probably the best explanation, snarky comments about fanfiction aside (some very unnecessary detail for the sake of detail notwithstanding).

I dunno he’s been all over the place for a long time. People like writing salacious shit. Obviously we can’t say “oh this is 100% wrong”, but declaring this as “definitely” or even “probably” true is just fucking dumb.

So you’re saying that this article actually makes you more sure that it was the Russians

I’m saying it has no affect on my thinking at all, because I’ve seen this guy spout utter bullshit elsewhere and there’s no verifiable facts afaict at all. It shouldn’t affect yours either.
