Soon as we could see clearly
Through our big black eye
Man, we lit up your world
Like the fourth of July
Hey Uncle Sam, put your name at the top of his list
And the Statue of Liberty started shakin’ her fist
And the eagle will fly man, it’s gonna be hell
When you hear mother freedom start ringin’ her bell
And it feels like the whole wide world is raining down on you
Brought to you courtesy of the red white and blue
Justice will be served and the battle will rage
This big dog will fight when you rattle his cage
And you’ll be sorry that you messed with
The U.S. of A.
'Cause we’ll put a boot in your ass
It’s the American way
it was a nice thing to wake up to today.
Oh, yeah. Sorry. From here it’s not much more than a news item. I bet you take it just a bit more seriously if stuff is actually flying overhead.
some japanese version of myself was charging down some highway at 175 mph with a shitty backpack full of survival crap in his trunk.
sorry, that must have been terrifying
It was more terrifying the first time it happened, in 2017. Being woken by sirens and loudspeaker announcements urging residents to duck for cover.
This time was watching the morning news when the emergency announcement came on. Figured it would jut be a flyover missile–and it was–but you never know when it might be the real deal and the world plunges into chaos.
Reminds me of that Hawaii guy who accidentally fired off the alert system
Reminds me of how fragile world order is. This time last year I doubt many Ukrainians thought they’d be embroiled in a full-scale war.
Now we’re three madman whims (Putin nukes; Kim Jong-un bombing South Korea and Japan; and Xi Jinping attack on Taiwan) away from WW3/the dark ages.
Sure, why not.
I am assured that Russia will not resort to nukes, and if they do it will be entirely NATO and Ukraines fault.
Who assured you of that?
This show is incredibly slow and I kinda just want to fast-forward to the part with the nukes.
I’m sure Ukraine will blow up that train if it gets within 100km of the border
Seems Ukraine making steady progress in Kherson. Feels like at some point Russia is just going to have to abandon the position - could be bloodbath if they don’t have good lines to retreat (although maybe soldiers can just slip across river and leave behind all supplies?).

People who don’t want to fund Ukraine’s side in the war to the current level are pro-Russian? One way to frame things I suppose.
NPR hourly news summary says experts say the risk of nukes in Ukraine “remains low” then quotes a Harvard professor putting the probability at 10-20%. That’s… unsettling.
It could have been framed more neutrally
