Most of his “I give my name and take a piece” deals are for stuff that requires his continued involvement or has no ongoing cash flow. He lends his name to a condo project, they sell the condos, its over. There is no residual cash flow. There is no such thing as “Trump licensed apartments” where he can just sell predictable future cash flows. To the extent Trump ties/vodka/gold coins/whatever make money, do you trust Donald fucking Trump to continue promoting those things after you buy the upside from him?

No. First, you have to sell non-controlling interests at a discount because you have no decision-making authority. Second, the partnership agreement restricts this (for example, by requiring a right of first refusal to the managing shareholder at a formula favorable to the buyer). The partnership agreement will also usually prohibit borrowing against the ownership stake.
I feel pretty good about not giving money to a newspaper that has actively contributed to the growth of fascism in our country. The fact that a couple reporters actually did their jobs (after getting gifted some tax returns) has nothing to do with that.
