It’s a nice thought, but there’s really nothing anyone can do until 2026. Democrats need to focus on rebuilding the party brand so they can hope to repair some of the damage in a decade, but that’s not going to constrain Trump. The only real variable is House control in 2026. I had naively assumed that was close to a lock, but markets alarmingly only have Dems as a 3-1 favorite.

I think the current part B premium is $185, normally deducted from Social Security payments. Everybody who has part B pays the premium and you have part B under MA. I assume RFK Jr knows the difference between MA and Medigap but maybe not?
Yea I get Part A and B under Medicare and part C with Cigna.

My point was mainly on populism. Agreement that it’s a bad thing for greedy companies to cause suffering and death in order to profit by denying healthcare is something that transcends left/right politics

They’re also just kind of making stuff up and ignoring complexity. Obesity rates vary across Europe, there is car dependency vs. livable cities, food quality and regulation, as well as good old SOCIALISM on the income front so poverty rates are lower in Europe.

I know you and others made this point in November, but it’s clearer than ever that Trump/Biden/Trump was the worst case scenario and we would have been better off if Trump won in 2020. I agreed in November, but I guess I had some naive hope Trump might try to be a unifying strongman like Modi, attempting to appeal across the spectrum. Full-scale autocrat is much more likely based on the first week in office.
I still hear lots of my dem friends saying, “no way he can keep this up, he’s just trying to come in with a big bang so he can claim all sorts of progress then it will be back to Trump 1.0 because he’s lazy.” I sure fucking hope so, but my sense is that this time around is different.

Yep, and more generally, this time around, project 2025 ghouls understand Trump is completely ineffective as an administrator (and lazy secondarily), so he does nothing besides communication and signing shit going forward. It’s like a K-pop group; the on-screen talent is literally just that.
