Yeah you hit the jackpot on that one. Little Corn is a whole super slow vibe that you don’t get at most beaches which have motorized vehicles in the vicinity. I loved Little Corn and I don’t care about beaches at all.

Did you eat a lot of pati from the tall older creole dude?

Where did you stay at?

I didn’t, but literally everything was shut down due to covid, so I was just making my own food. But yeah it was a really cool place to be

It was called Dobedo, some wooden bungalows on the north part of the island (near the resort) built by a Canadian guy with a Nica wife.

It was me and a French couple who were like 75 years old and kept stealing my food lol

Yeah he would show up on the waterfront every morning with a Tupperware container full of homemade pati. Those things were so good.

I was 30 minutes outside of town so I didn’t really go there much, just for groceries.

This was my part of the island

This also reminds me how much I don’t like hearing my voice recorded heh

I just wrote in my book that Otto Beach was the nicest of the whole trip.

Ha nice! I actually forgot it was called Otto beach. It was just the beach when I was there, as there was nobody around to call it anything. Fucking gorgeous though

I literally know the exact spot you took that photo, kinda crazy

Heading to Chicago for a wedding next weekend.

I have reservations for The Moody Tongue before the cocktail hour at Homestead on the Roof. Any recommendations for cocktail bars / dive bars / comedy clubs / any late night spot for after?

Saturday I want to go to Off Color brewery and Kasama. Other than that I need to kill some time prior to the wedding.

I’m still going in early December. Is that your fav brewery there or just one you are checking out? Do you know of any good ones there?

I’ve actually never been to either one. I’ll probably be hitting up a few while. I’ll make sure and give you some thoughts

Off Color is cool, whole Brewery district down there has some cool spots.

Overall I’m not that familiar with that neighborhood (I’ve always lived on the east side of the highway and just not super familiar with the bar/restaurant scene post Covid).

Kasama is almost impossible to get a reservation I’m pretty sure, so would look up if they have a bar for walk ins if you don’t have a reservation.

I love Opart Thai House at Chicago and Ashland. Get the Tiger Cry appetizer if you go.

Bars are aplenty around that neighborhood. West Town up through Wicker Park has a good mix of dive bars and nicer places. Weekend nights I’d assume the places on Milwaukee between Division and North will draw a younger crowd, the more divey/neighborhoodey bars will be the ones not on Division or Milwaukee. I don’t have any specific ones in mind, but if you Google around I can let you know if I’ve been there or not and give you a general vibe.

If for any reason you get pizza, just go to Pequod’s.

Anyone have recs for Tijuana?

Hookers and blow?

Eat a shit ton of tacos from street vendors.

No recs but the food scene in Tijuana is supposed to be great and largely overshadowed by the fact that few tourists go there for eating, at least not for actual food.

I know there’s some newish food hall that’s supposed to be great, that’s not much of a description but it’s worth putting in a bit of research–which I guess is what you’re doing and I’m not helping.

I’m curious what Tijuana is actually like after only ever seeing it’s depiction from lol Hollywood.

For Wicker Park cocktails I like the Queen Mary on Division and then also there’s the Violet Hour up on Damen (by 6 corners) which is probably the most renowned cocktail joint in the area, it’s speakeasy style place, no signage out front, pretty cool spot.

Clear: just traded my biometric data to skip a maybe 20 minute line lol. Bunch of people trying to catch flights were like “WTF is this?” as we got escorted past them. We let some people go ahead of us.

Verdict: Clear is 100% a pay-to-cut-the-line service. It is probably less secure than the regular security process imo.

Is it worth it? I’m eligible for it but I only go on one round-trip to America per year. Otherwise it’s all international travel.
