Trans Issues In Sports/Society

I’m imagining you earnestly asking this like it’s the most normal thing for you to expect a respectful reply and it’s making me feel like I’m high on drugs. The twist is, it is normal! You should expect a respectful reply and you’ll probably get one. Just imagine.

It’s a normal question to ask to be sure, just a deeply ironic one for Trolley Trollson to ask.

Doesn’t come across as trolling to me but I can see why Yuv would prefer to not appear to be quoted saying things like this as if they were his personal thoughts or beliefs.

It’s entirely possible for someone to have an XY karyotype and yet have an obviously female body plan at birth and through life (there is even more than one way for this to occur). These people can live their whole lives knowing they are women unless and until they take a karyotype test. Are such people not women?

It’s quite amazing.

I’m admittedly wading into this thread for the first time recently and haven’t gone back to read the discussion from last year but it seemed drastically over the line to me for you to accuse Rugby of only caring because he has a trans family member and then further implying without that family member Rugby would be some kind of right wing anti-trans bigot.

This is a discussion forum. Accusing someone of JAQing off should be “cite or ban” territory. People are allowed to ask questions as long as they aren’t doing so while obviously knowing the answer or in order to rile someone up.

Yea this guy is literally begging us to help him join the right side and there were multiple posts basically telling him to fuck off.

Folks. Including @Cactus I would recommend going back to this post, and then reading down from there for a bit. I pull out a lot of the key posts from earlier in the thread that make the arguments.

A lot of the questions have literally been answered TODAY, by a trans member of the forum, and Cactus can’t be bothered to click the links. Yes it’s JAQing off.

Hey Cactus. Risky posts on this topic in the post literally above yours. I recommend having a good look at that one before asking the same question again.

If you have questions after that, I’m happy to discuss.

Quoted for why Im so frustrated at this thread. We couldn’t even meet this standard, and the bar needs to be a lot higher than this.

Not anti-anything, just not this. And maybe over the line, but also trivially obviously blatantly correct. No sarcasm though, you’re probably right and I should’ve just went with,

I, for one, am especially glad to see that you could take this moment and make it about how much better you are than everyone else.

except without MrWookie’s snark, because that is exactly what Rugby is doing and it is actively harmful.

Sex and gender are more complicated topics than you might initially suppose

To illustrate further the idea-construction of sex, consider the case of the athlete Maria Patiño. Patiño has female genitalia, has always considered herself to be female and was considered so by others. However, she was discovered to have XY chromosomes and was barred from competing in women’s sports (Fausto-Sterling 2000b, 1–3). Patiño’s genitalia were at odds with her chromosomes and the latter were taken to determine her sex. Patiño successfully fought to be recognised as a female athlete arguing that her chromosomes alone were not sufficient to not make her female. Intersex people, like Patiño, illustrate that our understandings of sex differ and suggest that there is no immediately obvious way to settle what sex amounts to purely biologically or scientifically. Deciding what sex is involves evaluative judgements that are influenced by social factors.

From Stanford Encyclopedia of Philosophy article on feminist theories of sex and gender

I appreciate this response. I really do. I consider myself an intelligent sensitive human being and while I’m willing to educate myself about the plight of trans people and how to make the world more inclusive thru good faith discussions, I admittedly have not spent much time myself on actual research. The truth is, I do not (to my knowledge) know anyone who identifies as trans. I would think one of the obstacles that trans people face is that rightly or wrongly, trans issues just don’t affect non trans people much. At least not enough to do our own research, etc. I don’t mean that to sound cold. Just that it hits me only from a peripheral standpoint here and there when I read about it

Again, truly appreciate your response and I’ll definitely watch that and continue trying to learn

It’s actively harmful. Then again Rugby probably thought that USA#1 getting on the TV and screeching that they were going to turn the Middle East into glass made everybody feel just as safe as it made him feel, and not the total opposite.

You’ve got to be kidding. I’ve learned that insulting someone’s intellect gets you warned or banned here, so I’ll just say you have to be one of the most insincere poster here.

Did it ever occur to you that the only reason this thread caught my attention is because it was just recently bumped? That’s how I use this forum. I just look at what’s recent and catches my eye. Not everyone has the time or inclination to devour every post that’s made

Also, you are outright LYING!! The only information on what I asked from today is by riskyflush and it’s a wall of text. Excuse me for not knowing it was worth reading. These threads sometimes so quickly devolve into attacks that it’s hard for an outsider to even keep up with who said what.

Now that I know riskyflush is a worthwhile poster (at least on this topic from what I can tell), I’ll know to read those posts in full. But at least try and be honest when responding to me man. I can’t stand insincerity and you totally reek of it at times

This is exactly what I said you were doing. You even admitted yourself in a previous post you were JAQing off. Not sure how that equates to being an insincere liar.

Jaqing off as I read the definition is asking leading questions from an insincere standpoint as if to influence an audience. That is nothing like what I was doing.

From Urban Dictionary:

“The act of asking leading questions to influence your audience, then hiding behind the defense that they’re “Just Asking Questions,” even when the underlying assumptions are completely insane.”

The part I admitted to is asking questions to get into a quick dialogue

If your questions were sincere then I apologize. It’s hard to see that when you asked the same questions twice after they were both already answered and talked about ad nauseum throughout the thread. If you want to educate yourself on the topic there has been a lot of good links posted in this thread. All the answers are there and you can ignore the bickering. Other people here are more knowledgeable than me so I’m hesitant to answer your questions directly.
