Trans Issues In Sports/Society

What do you think? Do you think that trans women should be banned from competition?

This poll says cis-women were 53-43 against:

On the Penn swimming case, I gathered that 16 of her teammates said she should not be able to swim and 5 said she should:

https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.newyorker.com/sports/sporting-scene/how-one-swimmer-became-the-focus-of-a-debate-about-trans-athletes/amp

I think this is true for sure. But that’s where the argument needs to be formulated. The entire issue is: can sports have meaningful competition is trans women are allowed to compete as women? Specifically because we have this big movement of deplorables acting out of hate, it’s not good enough to declare that it’s “obvious”.

Firstly. Most people, even progressive ones, still have a bunch of transphobic attitudes. I certainly do. Transphobia is not something that only those bad ol Republicans over there do.

Secondly. Intent really doesnt matter that much. Doing something harmful out of ignorance and a lack of effort still hurts people. It’s still transphobic.

Thanks that’s good information to have.

If the NCAA or any other organization wanted to take that into account as part of their decision making that would be fine with me, although I wouldn’t be very satisfied with something where there was a lot of evidence the other way but a “majority rules” approach was applied. But that would at least be a basis to make a decision, and then people on the side of inclusion could go about trying to make their case and sway the majority.

Is it racist to ask whether in the light of recent MS 13 shootings we should consider whether police should shoot more Mexicans?

Also. That’s really not all that is being said itt. You should consider that you arent picking up the transphobic stuff accurately.

Could someone at least enumerate these criteria which need to be evaluated? So far the conversation is very “rabble, rabble, rabble” and not focused on the specifics. Something that is very relevant to the conversation is that USA Swimming changed their guidelines on Feb 1 2022 and the NCAA decided not to immediately adopt them because it was in the middle of a season and very close to the championships. I haven’t seen anyone against Lia Thomas mention that, even though it is literally the sport’s governing body evaluating and updating the requirements.

It seems the null hypothesis for any positive performance from a trans athlete is because they are “actually a man.” There is never a conversation on their talent, training or work ethic.

Dude you’re completely unhinged in this thread.

I can take the heat but I promise you even on this incredibly progressive board the “insult and shame people with completely reasonable perspectives” line isn’t doing anything positive.

I could be wrong here, but your tone has been pretty poor here and it’s similar to the crypto thread.

Is anyone able to share their opinion on why they believe that the system worked accordingly in this specific case better than this?

My primary audience isnt you. Its trans folks who wonder if this board is a safe space or not.

Super gross thread. White gated-community living banking execs telling people supporting transgender people to take the L. This place really has gone to total shit jfc.

My best friends child is transgender and they are all terrified because of the laws being enacted in Oklahoma/Texas/Florida/etc. I am terrified for them. Even if that wasn’t the case I would have the same views that we should want to support and protect minorities of which transgender people are obviously one. Let’s not pretend the transgender sports stuff isn’t a proxy battle about transgender rights in general. It 100% is.

Reading this trash here is horrible.

I think this is genuinely the worst thread/day of posting I’ve seen on this site.
