Trans Issues In Sports/Society

There is a large number of elected politicians who publicly support the idea that women should be arrested if they have an abortion when the alternative is that they will likely die. Is that a good issue for the GOP?

Do I think Democrat politicians should be giving stump speeches about trans athletes? Probably not but the idea that they should run away from the topic and deny support for trans athletes even when supporting them fits their principles is classic born-loser Democrat shit.

Is it transphobic for a heterosexual man to not want to date trans women? What if they don‘t rule it out completely but are hesitant about it?

Could spend all day talking about ways to make MMA safer. The last thing needed is to knowingly take steps to make it more dangerous. The blatant disregard for fighter safety in early marketing nearly got it banned entirely in America in the late 90s/early 2000s. Even now the unified rules are lacking in some areas.

Again then, we need to hear about them. If trans women are scattered throughout women’s sports with unremarkable results, we need to know that. And it can’t be entirely left to the media. Advocates of trans women playing women’s sports have to bring that up.

You dont think this happens? You think the NYT is devoting time to “14 year old trans athlete gets cut for being bad at sport” headlines?

The New York Times doesn’t know everything. Are advocates for trans women in sports showing examples of this. Then it may get coverage. Are we just taking this out of perspective, because we’re not seeing it in perspective?

Almost every elite competitor in NFL, MLB, NHL, tennis, swimming are above average height (oftentimes by more than a standard deviation).

Im not saying its off the mark, im saying its really dumb to sell out our values based on what the fucking republicans care about and whether its a loser or not

Taller people are “better” at hockey and football. You don’t want to be 7 feet tall, but height is huge in how players get scouted, picked for better teams etc. This is also true for pitchers in baseball.

Cool, lets inform the national media. Im sure they will be more than happy to devote space to stories nobody will read because they hate money that much.

Even if the political reality could have an effect that would cause things to be worse for trans people in the near/mid-future?

I picked that one because sometimes we shouldnt be making policy based around polling. I.e. sports and cultural integration in the 50s and 60s

I don’t see it as selling out values. Both sides have good arguments and one side is less than 1% of the population so in a democracy they will lose. And I don’t see a moral imperative to go down swinging trying to change that, analogies that try to make it a moral imperative don’t hold water, imo.

This is where I potentially could be moved, but I’d need good evidence. Does suicide go down significantly after transition? Does medical intervention affect the rate? People have a lot of wierd psychological reactions. I could see a lot of trans people trying to “fix” something wrong with their lived experience and fixating on gender as the “solution” whereas others might decide giving their lives over to Jesus or Xenu is the solution to their discomfit. I wouldn’t be surprised if some nontrivial percent of gender dysmorphia is just dysmorphia that gets channeled into gender because it’s a possible “solution”.

This framing is also bad. Its not as though Lia stepped put of the pool on the mens event and then immediately took her place on the starting blocks in the womens event. Shes been training as a female athlete for years before competing in the female sanctioned events.

You want a hot take? Maybe instead of focusing on her gender we should focus on whether fifth year seniors should be allowed to compete. Maybe that extra year allowed her to train harder and gain an advantage.

Yes, dramatically, although it’s still higher than for cis people, usually because of bullying and not being accepted.

Have I not made the black integration/trans integration argument enough times yet?

Honestly thats up to the trans community I guess. Maybe we let them take the lead and follow along.

Honestly, I would suggest doing some research on your own from reputable sources before continuing in this thread. There is a lot available out there to help with these questions and being more informed might help you understand why this is an important issue to a lot of us

Also, having to do stories about some less athletic kid getting cut or having a bad game and framing it as “see, this trans athlete is pretty shitty relative to their competitors” is really fucking gross?

Isnt this the problem? The right wing specifically targets trans females for a reason. Maybe you should be asking why.

Hint: the answer isnt fairness.
