The Television Streaming Thread: Part III

Yes, and I agree with you, but when your kids go from like ten years old to bearded adults in 5 seasons it’s weird

Slow Horses is probably twice per year but you have to accept shorter seasons.

Maybe I was just in the right mood but Stranger Things is great two episodes in :+1:

Anyone able to recommend a Stranger Things recap video? Something you saw yourself, not whatever you find on YouTube lol.

I really don’t know what to think of Beast in Me. I am only through the first episode but it seems kind of dumb and obvious?

I will concede that from the first scene that chin is working OVERTIME.

Also obviously I am going to finish the show because of that brief image revealing at some point we will get Mike fucking Ehrmantraut.

Like why does Aggie keep putting herself into vulnerable situations with this asshole? The moment his wife says she’s leaving, Aggie should have bolted. Instead she goes upstairs to be alone with a guy she knows is suspected of murder??! I bought her going over there just to get a glimpse of him, I’d be curious too, but being alone with him was what we called in the romance biz Too Stupid to Live.

Then she goes to lunch with him? Wat? And the thing that pushed her to agree was the plumber showing up? Wouldn’t it be the opposite?? Now that there’s a witness, the asshole needs to back off.

And don’t get me started on the cliffhanger at the end of the episode.

It’s funny - my son was in the final episode of Season 4 and we took a look for fun before we watched S5 E1 tonight. And boy, has he grown, too! He was 12 then, he’s 16, almost 17, now.

Ok, ending of Stranger Things Season 5, episode 4 was awesome.

The challenges each season are insane.

There’s such a difference between the annoying brashness of the Australian and Turkish teams vs the humble and self-effacing sportsmanship of the other teams.

Pluribus is maybe about to finally start getting somewhere but I’m getting pretty tired of it being 90% the famous drawn out Gilligan monotonous scenes shot well and 10% story. That was definitely not the ratio for BCS or BB. We are 5 hours in and almost nothing has happened of note since the first 30 minutes of the first episode.

A lot of 8 and certainly 10 episode seasons have fillers

The show is more about Carols reaction as it is the plot. Imagine that will change. Until then, I’m enjoying the ride. She’s a fantastic actor. I love that her grief has a complete hold on her (it’s been a week). So often there is an immediate scene of grief and then loss is pretty much swept aside from a motivator for revenge.

At 8 days after a shocking loss, one tends to be a complete mess. It was so well done in episode 4 that I had real grief for my own loss 18 years ago (which is ok, I view grief as a friend at this point, I don’t go looking for it, but I don’t dread it either).

I get this to some degree, but it seems like we all tend to underestimate the amount of stuff that happens in individual episodes bc of the way Gilligan crafts the story. Off the top of ny head, here’s what happened/we learned from this most recent Plur:

  • Carol gets abandoned - she’s alone in the entire city
  • The hive refuses to speak with her directly
  • Another fight with Laxmi
  • She fights off wolves to protect Helen’s remains (metaphor metaphor metaphor)
  • We learn that she can paint
  • She discovers the powder
  • She discovers the drink production thingy
  • She’s vlogging it all
  • She discovers… something… cliffhanger

that feels like more story than we’re giving him credit for

I mean it’s Gilligan so I am still giving him the benefit of doubt there is some payoff coming but Im mostly just annoyed with a 15 minute scene about her cleaning up her trash(yes I realize that sort of leads to the ultimate discovery he cliffhangers us on), another 10 minutes or so of her moping around the house, 10 minutes buying pavers and installing them, etc. You will notice there is no need for spoilers for any of that because they aren’t plot points. It’s just Gilligan masterbatory stuff. The drone crashing and still being there days later is either fan service to the WW pizza gag or just a lazy reuse of it.

I do understand this is a Gilligan signature story telling device but it is so over the top in every one of these episodes it is starting to annoy me where in BCS when we saw the Cinnabon shots for example or long scenes of Odenkirk driving his shitmobile to the courthouse it was a tiny fraction of each episode and was enjoyable.

I also think part of the problem is that Carol is so so one note so far that even though Seehorn is a great actor the overall lack of any other compelling character (with the exception of 5 minutes of the Portuguese guy a couple episodes back) is starting to make me not really enjoy her acting in this show.

Anyways I’m still not giving up on it and these takes probably all look dumb in retrospect that’s just the honest way I’m feeling so far. Also as I previously mentioned the bar is just set so high I think that is part of it. It’s a 8.5 on IMDB. And while I think thats a little high I’d personally give it high 7s. I’m just judging it against BB/BCS which is probably unfair and I admit that.

I think you are also forgetting how many of those exact scenes were in BCS and BB.

Did not watch either. Kind of breaking bad and never went back to do so. Will some day.

…and here come the first crazy Pluribus theories! :transmet_smiley:

Pluribus ep4 down. This show is already a GOAT. Carol is relatable and likeable and smart. Seehorn is giving a fantastic performance. The world building is just enough each episode to push the story forward while revealing new details. All depends on if they stick the eventual landing.

And omg so many cool shots!!!

Last night me and my girl were looking for something to watch. I told her I just finished catching up on The Chair Company and would gladly watch it again.

She said are you sure?

I said I promise you will laugh.

Now she is telling her mom to watch it.

My hope is this is a gateway drug to The Curse.
