The Television Streaming Thread: Part III

One of the best seasons of Taskmaster. I had the impossibly high expectation of Jason ending up on my Mount Rushmore of Taskmaster contestants…and yet he delivered. All other 4 brought it in their own ways.

My Mount Rushmore of Taskmaster contestants is Rhod Gilbert, Jason Mantzoukas, David Correos, and TBA. Yes I threw in a NZ, but Correos is so good.

All 5 on this season absolutrly brought it in their own way. Fatiah is one of the most british people ive ever seen. Matthew degrades himself in the best possible ways. Rosie is so quick and talented, and Stevie is self depricating almost to the point of feeling bad for her and instead brings it to brilliant comedy.

The “Rube Goldberg machine ending in dissapointment” prize task might be my favorite moment on the show ever

Nice to see Common Side Effects getting some love. Any show that can consistently end each episode with me saying “oh fuck you” to the creators for how good the cliffhanger is deserves a spot on the top of the year list. I find it hard to think it wont end up in my top ten at the end of the year.

Yeah that was a great recommendation

I am surprised to see MurderBot here, I don’t hate the show or anything but it feels pretty shallow to me.

Rehearsal not being on there makes that list irrelevant

Well what about Marcel?

Saw elsewhere that’s she (Katie) must be about 30 now and mid 40s is expected lifespan. Last report was some kind of mascot with the Angels??? Was in some JCVD movie?

I saw a commercial for the new new Dexter. Didn’t they recently have a new Dexter? How is this different? Do I need to see new Dexter to watch new new Dexter?

I rewatched it like six months ago, was still great.

Think of it like this being season 10. Season 9 was new blood, season 10 is resurrection and that comes out in a few days. You should probably watch new blood if you plan on watching resurrection.

The Dexter from last year was beginnings, which is a prequel series. You probably don’t need to watch it, but if you’re a fan of the premise, you’ll probably like it.

Counter: I loved the OG series and New Blood but hated the prequel series and never finished it.

I read somewhere that if they change the name of the show even slightly, it’s a “new” show according to union/guild rules so the crew gets fucked out of residuals that they would have gotten (e.g. for a lot of positions the residuals are meager until the show gets to season 3 or whatever and then they escalate sharply), I imagine this is pretty easy to confirm or debunk but I just blindly believe everything I read on the internet.

fwiw that sounds like it tracks pretty closely to what I’ve heard about shows needing to run for X number of episodes/seasons before they could qualify for syndication (where the real residuals came from back in the pre-streaming days). Obviously if a show only has like 2 seasons it’s not an attractive item for syndication.

sounds like a job for @LFS

I’m amused that the post promising hot twins got no likes but 40 clicks. (Yes, I was one of those.)

This is the actual reason why Power Rangers never uses the same cast beyond two seasons.

Seems unnecessary with that workaround. Can’t they just film two seasons, call it a wrap and then the follow up the next year with a new series: Power Rangers Return. Are they worried the actors would turn down reprising their roles out of spite?
