I just assumed “Alice” was an reference to “Alice in Wonderland” thrown in for the English speaking world
Australia gave us Tame Impala at least
INXS was huge in America. Still is!!!
Swing harder imo.
Unless you’re talking about some club band that never sold more than six units…
It’s okay if I never heard of them lol I just want examples of bands you and your gf brought up to each other.
Technically AC/DC is an Aussie band no?
Slightly later era Aussies I love include Silverchair and Natalie Imbruglia.
Then, to add salt to the wound, HBO announced that it would be removing Westworld from its streaming catalogue, and giving it to FAST, a third-party ad-supported streaming service.
Yes, this was driven home by the use of playing cards.
I went to the festival in Adelaide they headlined (Harvest Rock) but we left halfway through their set.
I mean being from NZ they are kind of hometown Heroes and occupy much the same position as a band like REM does. Would it be weird to you if REM headlined a festival? Like it does mark it as a bit of a family or old persons festival but…
Yeah, that’s the festival. Did you see Kurt Vile the first day? I think that’s who I was looking up.
No, REM headlining a festival wouldn’t be weird. But it is definitely news to me that Crowded House is anywhere near REM level anywhere on earth.
What in the actual fuck
INXS was great in their day, but didn’t the lead singer die of an, um, unfortunate accident?
This was my favorite:
We just started Succession and four episodes in I am hooked
Brian Cox is so insanely good, give that guy a trophy ffs
New Sensation
Never Tear Us Apart
All bangers.
To be fair, you did see this in the theater. That is a completely different experience, especially for a film like this.
Sounds like this is a minimalist banger best experienced after reading the books.
Don’t even know. I might have seen a couple minutes. Wasn’t a name that meant anything to me.
REM are a bigger band still I’d say but not that much bigger. Similar amounts of radio airplay. Four Seasons In One Day and Don’t Dream It’s Over get a lot of play. The latter is the only song of theirs I really like. I find them a little dull generally.
Not just “technically”. I mean a lot of the members were born overseas but it’s an Australian band.
Sometimes its more like whether we knew a band or not. Late last year a band called The Clouds played their whole debut album for 30th anniversary of release and we went because one of my gf’s good friends loved them back in the day. I had never even heard of them. The debut album was released in 1991 at which time I was 11 and my gf was 15.
Same thing with The Living End, eyebooger linked “Prisoner of Society” upthread, that was released when I was 18 and she was 22. At that festival I went to recently I was like “any interest in seeing The Living End” and she was like “who?” and my jaw was on the floor. She knew the songs when I played them but couldn’t have named the band, they were ubiquitous through my college years, kind of annoyingly so.
Other than INXS the only other disagreement I can remember over whether an artist was cool or not was Dave Graney & the Coral Snakes. “Rock’n’roll Is Where I Hide” was their biggest track I think, if you want to check that out.
Just launching White Lotus S2 last ep, pretty curious what goes down.
Pretty good. Definitely worse than S1 and I don’t think the messaging is totally clear. Basically it’s that everyone is outraged about other people compromising their sexual integrity until the circumstances are right and then they’ll do it too.
