Watching Sucker Punch on Hulu and I heard this movie was horribly exploitative, but I just find it mostly confusing. Fight scenes instead of stripping, abusive step father becomes a priest dropping a orphan off?
I mean it is exploitative, but it a very PG 13 kind of way. Short skirts and low cut tops, when I was imagining so much worse.
I finally checked out Sucker Punch too. Unwilling to finish it. I thought it would be offensively bad, but it was just so much video game nonsense. What is real? Where are we going? Why does it matter? Snyder is such a terrific visual stylist, but the guy is in desperate need of a good script.
My one thought here is that I suspect Snyder used this movie to work through the intense struggle his daughter was going through that eventually took her life.
The first scene had me pumped. It was like a whole set up, expertly shot in a MTV music video kind of way that had me psyched for a kind of hyper stylized tightly focused movie, but after the first scene it quickly fell apart.
Finished S3 of Ozark and liked it a lot more than I think most have. One of the criticisms is that it’s much of the same and I think that’s true to some extent. But these characters in this situation is what the show is about and I think it is still working as well as ever. Especially Ruth. She may be my spirit animal.
Another complaints is about the new brother character but I found him really interesting. The way he was introduced was like, lol damn who is that?? The mental illness angle is a little tired but the part is really well acted and I think it works.
And I really liked the ending. The last 2 episodes were very entertaining and the finale was a great way to finish the season. Prediction: Marty and Wendy are going to end up running the cartel
Watched season 2 of Miracle Workers on TBS over the past few days. It’s a comedy anthology, and I haven’t seen season 1, but I was pleasantly surprised. It’s nothing groundbreaking, but it’s got Steve Buscemi and Harry Potter in it and has some good chuckles. Similar vibes to What We Do in the Shadows.
