Decided to rewatch The Shield for the Xth time, almost through s2.
I realize when I do these series rewatch binges my brain is being super lazy. Don’t have to figure out what to watch don’t really have to think about what I am watching or missing something.
Without looking it up I thought Kirsten bell had a really tiny part in one episode?
The shield benefits from good writing and great acting.
I should probably watch the shield. I think I have a bad experience trying to stream it on a shitty streaming site in low quality and thinking it was cheesy. Also coming from The Wire being obv GOAT it wasn’t stacking up.
I’ll tee it up for another try soon though. Had this same experience with expanse and finally when I got committed I loved it.
I finished rewatching Love and Easy for the umpeenth time (Netflix). Both shows so funny and insightful and ultimately optimistic through all the struggles.
Easy in particular has so much to offer a variety of audiences because each episode focuses on different slightly inter-connected characters across Chicago.
My fave arcs across each season are the lesbian couple with the fake vegan (“Vegan Cinderella”), Marc Maron being Marc Maron, Dave Franco running an illegal home brewery out of his garage, and literally anything with Kate Micucci.
Love requires you to start off as a voyeur. I mean these characters are terrible people lol, so you need to enjoy watching them at least try to be better without succeeding. But then season three goes in a typical Judd Apatow-direction where all of the dysfunction suddenly manifests into a heartwarming conclusion.
Finished the 1st season of Pen15 on Hulu. The two main characters are grown women playing their 7th grade selves. The show is so good at capturing the awkwardness of those years that it’s hard to watch at times.
Wow Superman & Lois looks bad. They took the least interesting characters from Supergirl and made a show about them? Would rather watch a show about the Martian dude.
Just started Beforeigners on HBO Max. It’s a Norwegian series about people from the past popping up in the present. Only 1 ep in so no strong reaction yet.
So I just finished watching GoT for the first time. Oh boy do I have thoughts, and I realize I’m a couple years late to the party here. I will say, despite the ending being weak, the series is 63 episodes, with like 3 to 4 bad ones and the rest really good. I sort of want to go back to season 1 just to see some early development I missed. The Dany heel turn was obviously rushed. I could’ve almost bought it if it was her plan to raze kings landing all along and everything she had done up til that point was just to progress to that goal, but nah. It didn’t work. Also, after Jon killed her, which no one saw, and Drogon flew off, couldn’t he just be like “yeah she just hopped on her Dragon and fucked off, I have no idea what happened, I’m king now bitches.” Yeah, the ending was dumb. Good show though, I’m glad I watched it. I even had major plot points spoiled via pop culture references, and I’m like “how the fuck does Bran end up in charge” and then when I saw it, it was as bad as everyone made it out to be. It’s really hard to land a complex series with that many characters. Very few series do it well. Breaking Bad pulled it off because it wasn’t the ensemble that this was. And even that show was starting to jump the shark towards the end.
The GOT talk among workmates and other “normies” followed the exact pattern of a bubble stonk like GME. Slow build to massive spike to drastic fall to nothingness.
I’ll say this, if a show is going to end poorly, then waiting until the last few episodes to unleash all the suck is better. I’d rather die a sudden death I didn’t see coming than slowly be tortured to death over a significant percentage of my life. Dexter was 8 seasons and slowly declined horribly for the final 3. GoT was 8 seasons and really only got bad in the last 2 episodes. I’ll take that ratio any day.
Disagree!! It got terrible much sooner than the last two episodes. It’s just that we all held out hope they’d pull it together until the final credits rolled and we had to face the cold hard truth.
