The Supreme Court: RIP Literally Everything

Never again will a Democratic justice be confirmed by a GOP Senate. This is literally never spoken of in the media.

Man it tilts me everytime I see ā€œconservativeā€ in print. Such a useless anachronism at this point.

New labels should be Democrats: conservative, Republicans: reactionary.

Yeah, my first thought was, we have very different ideas of what power is.

Only hope I see is if Warren is able to have a conversation just the 3 of them

I hope whatever kompromat they had on Kennedy comes out some day.

It would be scarier if there was no freakout.

If they put the law to protect abortion rights at the federal level on the floor, they canā€™t get 50 Dem votes for it, let alone break the filibuster. They should do it anyway, and they should do it on gay marriage, gay rights, interracial marriage, contraceptives, etc, etc, but they are unlikely to get to 60 on any of it.

Biden should also issue executive orders that he knows are illegal on all of those things and force the GOP to sue and strike them down in SCOTUS. Make headlines about this shit every single day. The Republicans didnā€™t vote however many dozens of times to repeal Obamacare because they expected to get it through the Senate or get Obama to change his mind, they did it to make news and control messaging and signal to voters what they would do if they won.

How about Regressivist for Republicans

The only path is winning the Senate in November than doing things that will never happen like nuking the filibuster and packing the court. The only way this happens is some kind of external event completely changes the dynamic of this election and Iā€™m having trouble even thinking of something that might qualify. Like if the Proud Boys go full ISIS or something, who knows.

Mega corps arenā€™t going to save us. Theyā€™ll do the minimum to keep people working for them then fund and cut backroom deals with GOP politicians.

Better make it $55, Jeniā€™s is up to $8 a pint at my local supermarket. Do you really want to deny Nancy Pelosi her Brambleberry Crisp?

Not sure why they wouldnā€™t just wait until Republicans control all the levels of government and police and military and then do this. Why rush it?

No way Iā€™m pledging anything if thereā€™s not at least a 20x MATCH

Obviously file this one under eDems are never gonna do it but hereā€™s what should happen immediately:

  1. Put bills on the floor to codify rights to choice, access to contraceptives, gay marriage, gay rights, trans rights, interracial marriage, etc.

  2. Impeach Clarence Thomas over the Ginni 1/6 stuff and his refusal to recuse. Raise holy hell that he can vote while being impeached, sue to stop his vote.

  3. Impeach Kavanaugh and Gorsuch for lying to the Senate about this issue during their confirmations.

  4. Issue a series of executive orders to protect all of the above, and make the GOP sue to stop them. Do other popular stuff via EO that you know you canā€™t do via EO too, and make the GOP sue to stop that.

This all serves to keep the issues in the news for several months and to make a mockery of the Supreme Court and undermine its legitimacy. The problem is, the eDems donā€™t want to undermine SCOTUS because they want to make sure they have a judicial body to keep making rulings that protect the wealthy and corporations.

It also serves to telegraph an intention to actually fight and do good stuff.

Maybe there should be a movement to make those people realize theyā€™re being given the minimum, and demand more to not walk away

When I saw both of these editorials, in short succession, I had immediate flashbacks to May 2012. In the span of 48 hours, the National Review and George Will wrote that Chief Justice Roberts should not buckle under the pressure and uphold the ACA. I discussed these incidents on pages 227-232 of Unprecedented .

Basically thereā€™s been a leak when Roberts was being swayed on Obamacare and then with Gorsuch was being swayed on sex and gender with regards to sexual harassment, and now with regards to abortion.

While I agree that organized labor is probably the only movement currently underway in this country that can improve the lives of the lower to lower - middle workers, look at your own industry to see how much of an uphill climb that is. Misclassifying employees as contractors is only going to become more widespread. Same with predatory practices that keep workers indentured to a company. Work stoppages and strikes are the only realistic tools left. And thereā€™s hardly any will for those on a nationwide scale.

Hell of a thing to say today, no surprise though.

Thatā€™s why there should be a movement involving the six-figure salary with PTO corporate employees that care if their company is hurting the rights of women and minorities

Theyā€™ll apparently walk if their company isnā€™t holding woke seminars and putting pronouns in emails, so use that and grow the movement thatā€™s already there. Make them demand more than seminars and emails. Make them demand the company uphold externally the values it pretends to have internally
