The Stephen King thread

Book 2 is so much better than one. That being said, trying 1 again with the newest revisions might help.

As for different entry point, Long Walk and Dead Zone. They are quick, hard hitting, emotional reads.

I should give it another chance. I thoroughly enjoyed the book Dr. Sleep and thought the movie was pretty good.

Watch it tonight. Misery is a valid top 100 movie

Kathy Bates was a revelation. Y’all young kids may not remember there was a time before she was recognized as a GOAT

One of the most well-deserved acting Oscars of all time, imho

Lol the director for the premiere is the same guy who made directed The New Mutants. My expectations are now appropriate.

Yeah, I still have the original miniseries and watch it from time to time. It’s going to be tough to see someone besides Gary Sinise as Stu, or any of the others, for that matter.

Dauber as Tom was always inspired casting to me

If it helps you decide, the reviews are, uh, not good.

The stand
Bag of bones
Needful things

These are all amazing books.

the build up was great. Then it’s like SK didn’t know where to go so he just killed 98% of the cast and called it a day

My sibling recommends we listen to this podcast. The guy exclusively reviews King’s endings and judges them by specific criteria whether they’re any good.

https://www.tvguide.com/news/stephen-king-the-stand-cbs-all-access-cast-james-marsden/

The bigger news, however, is that King is going to “write the last chapter of the series, providing a new coda that won’t be found in the book,” meaning there’s more story left to be told here. After the news broke, King — who wrote the 1978 novel as well as the screenplay for the previous 1994 miniseries — tweeted that he’d been thinking about the “final ending” for 30 years, and now he’s finally written it.

I need to restart this. It’s a pretty good cast. The Losers Club is a lot of fun as well

Also, Insomnia is way underrated. Ralph’s story still sticks with me anytime I wake up at 3 am and cant get back to sleep

I have an old pic of me somewhere in front of that place from when I lived out there. I’m trying to find it but lol Carbonite.

It looks nothing like the movie hotel from the outside, iirc that part was all filmed at a sound stage (also the maze never existed at the real hotel). But the inside I think still looks the same in spots.

It’s called The Stanley and it’s at Estes Park

Good luck finding the pic! It’s a gorgeous spot.

@wirelessgrinder, downtown Estes Park is a good place for walking and shopping. If you can go with your kids, take them to the library, then the candy shops The Taffy Store and RocketFizz. A selection straight out of Willy Wonka.

Josh Boone made two significant movies. One of them was great. The other was stunningly bad.

Is the first episode of The Stand more like:
  • The Fault in our Stars
  • The New Mutants

My spoiler-free review

I loved this. Like he knocked it out of the park. The fractured timeline narrative jumps back and forth from before and after the plague. It allows the story to cover a lot of ground fast by showing us what we most want to see and letting our eager imaginations fill in the rest.

One critique sounds persuasive to me, but I can’t speak to it: the show is terrific if you’re intimately familiar with the story, but incomprehensible if you aren’t. Newer audiences will struggle to fill in the gaps.

As I said, I had no trouble at all and was impressed left and right. Give this one a shot.
