He says in this article that Les Paul and Mary Ford were making a million dollars a year when Gibson pitched the idea of the Les Paul to him, so that must have been around 1950. Also Mary Ford had a sister with a nearly identical voice, and she would sing from offstage making it seem like Mary was having a duet with herself. Apparently Mary could pick a little bit too.

He made an updated video recently with a more normal setup that is tighter but this one is my favorite for the ridiculous nature. and that weird claw grab on the ride around 0:30
