Interesting new theory that would explain dark energy, and how supermassive black holes got so big, despite a seeming lack of material and time to get that big.

Although it doesn’t really go into much detail about how black holes growing with the expansion of spacetime creates dark energy.

I had to read Chaos by James Gleick for a physics class.

I read it for fun. Some of the stuff I think I remember reading is not actually in the book. :man_shrugging:

According to How the Universe Works, a gamma-ray burst puts out as much energy in a few seconds as 100 trillion nuclear bombs, dropped every second, for a hundred billion years.

The people who think we’re living in a simulation almost always think some overlords are plugged into humans’ every move. That’s a pretty damn elaborate universe to create if you just want to see how some intelligent life forms organize themselves and behave.

IMO if we’re living in a simulation, most likely we’re just a weird byproduct of some entity testing all kinds of crazy physics.

I wonder how long you could do one of those with a plant and a colony of bugs that feed off the plant and consume the oxygen it releases. It would have to be something like aphids where they don’t eat the plant but eat it’s secretions. Or some way other way that the bugs can’t eat the whole plant.

I am not a science bro exactly, but I only got this far.

Yet despite his distaste for randomness, it was a different feature of the quantum world that Einstein found truly unbelievable. In a thought experiment, he pointed out that if the probabilistic description of the quantum world were the true state of things, then measuring one subatomic particle could instantly influence the state of another, regardless of the distance between them – a strange phenomenon that became known as entanglement.

It is 1:37 pm my time. I am starting a stopwatch until 1) Sabine comes in to say this isn’t what Einstein said (he said something like that but it wasn’t about entanglement), and 2) Kinney tweets, “No it can’t.”
