The Presidency of the Joes, part II: lol documents

Letā€™s be real with each otherā€¦ those mass shootings arenā€™t actually affecting very many people directly. Gun violence + suicide with a gun combine to make a pretty good size issue, but the mass shootings part has always been just the worst version because people who want second amendment reform know that the middle class+ people donā€™t give a shit about a pretty diverse group of poor people murdering each other at insane rates (and a whole bunch of mostly men of all demographic groups shooting themselves).

Iā€™m sure the people who actually live through a mass shootingā€™s minds are changed. That just isnā€™t very many people relative to the population. Everyone in Central Texas lost access to water and had to dump snow in their bathtubs to flush the toilet. That event made a whole bunch more people do some real thinking than any mass shooting no matter how large ever will.

Masks and CRT in schools though has made parents froth.

Those are things they think affect them directly. Which is my entire point. With each passing day the chances that any given member of the population has had a direct extremely unpleasant experience with climate change rises. The people of the Northwest were just the most recent people to have turn in the barrel. The Carolinas flooded hard less than 5 years ago. If you live in Houston youā€™ve had a Hurricane flood your city so hard the Army Corps of Engineers intentionally flooded the nice part of town to deal with it and now three years or less later they got to experience a legit no shit blizzard. Thatā€™s not a super weird out of line experience either.

Iā€™m saying that the switch is already flipped. Most even upper middle class people are having at least one serious adverse weather event related to climate change per year. These things are causing real inconvenience and in some cases harm.

The first couple of times it happens you can lie to yourself (so that you can go on telling yourself that you donā€™t have to change anything) and say that it was just a freak event. When itā€™s every year, every six months, every quarter? Yeah not so much. Thatā€™s where weā€™re headed in the extremely near future.

This shit really is like the seven plagues of Egypt except mother nature isnā€™t going to stop smiting us until everyone who reads this posts grandchildren are deadā€¦ if weā€™re lucky.

These migrants from Central are the first wave of climate refugees. Itā€™s also very small relative to the ones that will start slamming into us extremely soon. I sincerely wish all those anti immigration racists realized how damaging to the goal of keeping the white world white climate change is going to be. By my calculations at least 2B people live in areas that will be rendered massively less habitable than they are today by climate change over the next 20 years and those human beings are going to move not die, and at that scale they wonā€™t even need to ask nicely.

? Think of how many kids are in every school where thereā€™s a mass shooting, all of them badly traumatized.

Yeah add up all the schools and all the kids. Itā€™s less than a million people. Sadly not enough to even move the needle. Weā€™ve learned directly just what an incredible amount of suffering it takes to change public opinion from COVID and the opiate epidemic which is entering what feels like itā€™s millionth year of less than zero progress.

Itā€™s kind of like making money. If you can choose between doing a lot of good for and getting paid a lot of money by a smallish group of people and doing a tiny bit of good for a huge group of people and getting paid a smallish amount of money per person you should opt for the latter every time. Youā€™ll make way more money.

Karen cares a lot more about having to dump snow (which she has only seen on trips because sheā€™s from Texas) into her toilet tank to flush her toilet in the cold dark with no power than she does about someone elses kids getting slaughtered. People think COVID will never happen to them even though itā€™s happened to a hilariously large slice of the population at this point. Normies only respond to things that are happening to them directly and are extremely simple to understand.

Weather way outside the normal bounds all the time is one of those things that is directly happening to everyone now.

Keep in mind this is the NY times picking people/quotes to rile people up.

Nancy Pelosi is currently 15+ years past the mandatory retirement age for law and accounting firms.

That is a really unfortunate frame for the video to end on.

I have no argument for why apathetic young people should turn out to vote for these assholes. None. The world will be a better place when Nancy Pelosi dies.

Nah, rental not purchase.

Political parties cater to their core constituencies that turn out. Young people need to prove they are indispensable over several election cycles if they want their complaints to be addressed more forcefully.

Holy fucking shit.

Joe Bidenā€™s HHS not doing a very good job at housing children.

Well, I donā€™t know about you folks but I think Iā€™m ready to wave the white flag. Iā€™ve been voting democrat and progressives my entire life and really have nothing to show for it. My family is in the income range where tax changes affect us. Iā€™ve been willing to pay more taxes to help other people, but my choices right now seem to be shitty governance with high taxes, or shitty governance with low taxes. I may just give in the next election and vote for lower taxes. Iā€™ll hope that my state government will pick up the pieces and provide for its citizens because itā€™s clear nobody in Washington DC wants to do it.

Doesnā€™t seem possible to get a congress full of AOCā€™s. Much more likely to have a congress full of Sinemaā€™s and Manchinā€™s so fuck it. Every man for himself I guess.

I will probably choose option 3: donā€™t vote at all. Itā€™s going to ring completely hollow when they try to sell the next one as most important election evar after they did jack shit once they actually got into power.

I think anyone who didnā€™t have Bernie as their first choice during the primary should just keep quiet about their little predictions and prescriptions for the world

When do we start planning for an ā€œUnstuck end of the world bunker/resortā€ to escape this hellish conditions on earth? I thought 4 more years of Trump would be a disaster but who could have expected this shitshow.

We have had people on this forum make the same argument against UBI so itā€™s not surprising that a big percentage of the random population thinks people getting money from the govt is a bad thing.
