The Presidency of the Joes: more like INFRASTRUCTURE WEAK

Ok I read it. This seems like the equivalent of lawbroing Joe Manchin. There is no magical long game for Joe Manchin besides being a thorn in the side of progress.

Literal #1 VORP in the entire US government.

Lol, WI and PA, really punching below your weight. CA to get to $15/hour for all size employers by 2023.

Thatā€™s PA for ya. When the minimum wage was $5.15 thatā€™s how much I got working at a supermarket

Iā€™m close to genuinely believing Joe Manchin is good, actually.

The centrist shitlib last time around was Joe fucking Lieberman, for reference.

Sinema just seems straight-up mentally ill.

Iā€™m not going that far.

But yeah heā€™s way better than Lieberman (even discounting CT vs WV) and 3rd at worst in VORP.

LOL the bill ships $12,000 cash to a family of 4 and the ā€œmy entire online identity is shitting on Democrats no matter whatā€ crowd is behaving predictably.

You wonā€™t raise it later because the margin is razor thin and those people on the margins woo absolutely positively and without a doubt say they already raised it.

You are not just going to be able to revisit it annually and get ANY traction when you raised it AND tied it to being adjusted.

You lose a lot of votes right there. Votes who will feel zero pressure to address it again for a very long time.

ā€œMr. Congressman why wonā€™t you raise the minimum wage?ā€

ā€œDear constituent, we just raised the minimum wage by almost 50% just a few years ago! Plus we made it so it is adjusted to inflation so it keeps going up! I am looking out for you!ā€

Itā€™s not just between 7.25 and 11. Itā€™s between what you can do tomorrow. But if you think 11 is the best thatā€™s going to happen for a long time then yeah we do it. And we can revisit in 2030 when this indexed $11 minimum wage is still the law.

As opposed to the Manchin is actually good crowd

Could it have been better or is it not perfect? Sure but itā€™s infinitely better than Rs in charge.

(And it really does suck that the give backs were D on D crime)

I have yet to see anyone say this is bad on the left so this seems like a bit of strawman. Bernie and most on this board have rightfully said this was good. It wasnā€™t an either/or proposition here though. Those of us criticizing parts of what happened wanted this and more. Didnā€™t you?

So when do we get the Biden Bucks? In the next week or so?

Also 12000 for a family of 4 (earning less than 100,000)isnā€™t accurate.

It is 1400x4 + 1000-1600x2 = 7600-8800 unless I am missing something. Thatā€™s still really good obviously.

There have been a lot of people, here and elsewhere, saying the politics of the bill are bad.

There is a difference in between saying the politics of the bill are bad and the contents of the bill are bad no?

The politics of the bill are bad in my opinion because they backtracked on some key issues and negotiated against themselves. It also signals not much for the rest of this congress. You can simultaneously think what they got passed is good and think they didnā€™t go far enough and it is bad politically.

Iā€™ve seen no one say sending 8k to a family of 4 is bad. That is a strawman being used to defend what happened.

Really. No doubt the Democrats probably could have got more if they proposed an even larger package at the beginning and the $1,400 instead of $2,000 is a bit shitty but itā€™s honestly much more than I had expected.

Iā€™m sure Chapo Trap House will spend their next episode shitting on it.
