The Presidency of the Joes: more like INFRASTRUCTURE WEAK

Don’t worry, he’ll be back as soon as he can find something to replace, uh…fuel.

There was a good show on PBS called Arabia with Levison Wood. He actually sneaks into Yemen and then can’t get back into Oman. He has to sneak away on a boat to Somalia.

Anyway he did meet up with some really desperate-looking refugee families, who had already lost a bunch of their family, and who said they were on the run from the Houthis - for whatever that’s worth.

Looks like pure hell.

Everything I’ve read said the process takes a month to a month and a half

People who live on rural highways are the worst! When I’m filling e-commerce orders at my job and the software won’t let me print a shipping label it’s always because weirdo who lives on the side of the highway wrote their address as “123 Wisconsin Route 83” “123 State Highway 83” instead of “123 WI-83”. Every fucking time! We definitely need to stop subsidizing these roads because the people who live on them don’t even know what their address is.

What on earth are you talking about?

Yeah, Goofy rewrote my sentence better. It was a “fuck you” at higher taxed states (ie: states that have better social welfare programs.) It was designed to create downward pressure on the high tax states, and force them to cut taxes and reduce programs or risk losing high income earners. LIke, that was an explicit goal that the republicans verbalized when they passed it. Meanwhile, philosophically, it is stupid that the federal government is taxing as “income” money that you are paying in taxes to the state.

Also, this. getting rid of SALT was explicitly done to force states to cut social welfare programs.

To put a finer point on this. I would be absolutely fine with restoring the SALT deduction, and at the same time raising the marginal rates for higher income earners to make up for the restored SALT deduction. At least that would put people in blue states on an even playing field with people in red states.

Hm let’s see Trump’s response to that last sentence, I’m sure it triggered him: https://twitter.com/realDonaldTrump

This is a thing that you made up to argue with, not a thing that I said or believe.

I could use this line every time I tried to get into a real discussion instead of posting drive-by bad jokes.

I think y’all might be talking past each other. I believe Bobman is referring to studies that show that red states receive way more federal funding than they contribute. These metrics aren’t so much a measure of rich v poor, or how many people are on welfare, but simply which states are supporting the load for the federal government to function and which are free loaders. It’s more of a statement about the states as a whole than the individuals living in them and it’s a useful statistic to bring up since most of the states that have the biggest net gain are run by people that run on demonizing federal assistance/money in general. It’s the people running the red states who try to demonize blue states as being full of people sucking on the federal teat and being free loaders off the hard-working red-state real-Americans. This the statistic is useful to beat them over the head with.

Yemen was once home to a Jewish kingdom.

As a fan of the dessert, I think it’s disgraceful the way we abandoned the Yemon Kurds
