He voted against the tax bill because it would raise taxes on his base of property owning Long Islanders, and they were giving him an earful about it. Not sure how that proves his moderate bona fides. He voted for the terrible GOP healthcare plan.
We’ll never know for sure now what they would have done (I’m sure we’ll get another scenario where they’ll be put to the test soon), but your entire post is horse shit. You claim some West Wing stuff is what I’m saying, and I’m not doing that. You’re in full on V for Vendetta mode, and this kind of thinking really turns me off on this site (it always happens at the best times too when things are happening, which is amazing).
Remember, my point is very simple. You’re placing this very particular (not) incident into the mindset of the GOP having not done anything about tons of things that should have moved the needle. I’m placing this into the prism of this guy is an American immigrant war hero with a purple heart who has risen to be a Director on the NSC to these 53 people (the same types of people who defend the traitor Flynn solely because he’s a General), and he is the first fact witness (was on the call) to the crimes Trump is being impeached for. How is it this hard to see a simple difference? If this had happened, and the GOP senators wouldn’t have had their needle moved on this, absolutely nothing ever will. I’m in complete disagreement that this wouldn’t have moved the needle of at least a half dozen GOP senators.
How can you even deal with so much negativity in your life? You weren’t always this negative.
Why don’t you put your prosecutor hat on? Do you think it would be easier or harder to get a conviction in a case where the witness to a murder was shot by the defendant right before the trial (who went out and said, ‘that’s right I shot him for snitching’), but the witness didn’t die and is still willing to testify about the murder? Oh and it also turns out that the witness to the murder is the Police Commissioner (or insert any type of figure)?
They already did that, though, so there’s nothing left for them. They can’t get another one, and they know it.
You didn’t do what I asked. Vindman wears the uniform right now, and I’m quite sure you won’t even once hear Graham call him deep state. They just think the WB is some CIA rando who never wore the uniform, which is a really dumb assessment.
They don’t defend Flynn because he’s a general; they defend him because he’s a Republican. Republicans in the Senate are hyper partisan. They pick the side they want to win, then they invent whatever argument best defends their side, no matter how flimsy. The smart ones will try to avoid saying anything when the argument is completely weak.
What will move the needle is a shift in public opinion that puts Republicans at risk. What stops the needle from moving is when doing the right thing puts Republicans at risk. Stop assuming that Republicans have some sort of decency at their core. There are no profiles in courage among them. They have a proven track record of prioritizing money and power over honesty and integrity.
It feels like you have to believe that there is something that will move the needle, because if it doesn’t then everything is hopeless and you need to have hope to keep from falling apart.
Imagine if instead of a witness it was video evidence and the murderer was a white male cop and the victim was a black guy. Trump is a white male cop, America is the black guy, and Republicans in the Senate are the white jurors who aren’t going to convict.
