The problem is that he was actually in 80s movies, and he was a clown not a villain. I’d adjust your reference. To me they’re more like a dumb version of Dr. Evil and his henchmen/women.
I find this so frustrating precisely because “it depends” is often the first step to someone expanding their critical thinking. We ought to be witnessing the birth of deontologists across America, but instead, we’re just seeing how blind loyalty requires you to think outside of the box.
Trump’s base is the people who still relate to Kevin McCallister and wish they’d run into him if they ever get lost in New York.
So I’m at a training class for some crime prevention design stuff that is taking place at a police department. I guess one of the local officers here that is acting as the liasion for the class also writes books and has gotten in in the Trump grift in a unique way. Wish I had thought of it:
Let’s just say not a single one of your favorite cartoon directors from the Golden Age of animation have escaped without doing at least a couple of really offensive cartoons. Tex Avery was one of the greatest cartoon directors, and his history is horrific in addition to some of the great cartoons he did.
They were different times. We were all aware that Trump was a joke. Just putting him on screen was guaranteed to get a laugh.
I’m sure this is something you already know. I never watched The Apprentice, but producers said they brought Trump on for the deep sense of irony, and even now they’re shocked that it convinced people he has a clue what he’s doing. Everyone was supposed to be in on the joke.
New perspective watching his old commentary on R Kelly and MJ now, too.
This is ridiculous. Unstuck Publishing needs to get on top of this.
Trump used to know he was a joke. He was even in on it for awhile. At some point he forgot he was a joke, and look at what we have now.
There’s a line of hip hop artists who have used lines comparing themselves favorably to Trump in numerous songs in the 90s to mid-2000s. I wonder how they feel about that today.
He’s quite a bit later than those guys, and could in no way have gotten away with what he did during the Golden Age. Most of the Golden Age guys got started in the very early 30s, and were pretty much out of it by 1970.
Tom and Jerry had a huge amount of blackface gags, and offensive stuff in it. It was ripped on so hard later that they changed the voice of the woman who owned Tom in the cartoons she appeared in as well as leading to editing of some of the cartoons to remove offensive material.
