I’d go with “rarely has stupidity been so nasty, or nastiness so stupid”.

I still think they might dump Trump.

Mitch McConnell isn’t going to just passively accept an electoral sweat for his seat in 2020 on behalf of Donald Trump. He knows the GOP is in for a full year of nightmare headlines and continued revelations of indefensible behavior. He can easily frame it in a way that avoids the ire of the mouth breathing Trump base, particularly if Fox News is on board.

The betting markets, in my opinion, currently undervalue a brokered exit for Trump some time in early 2020.

From Charles Ponzi through PT Barnum on down americans have a pathological desire to be scammed. I think deep down most americans know they don’t deserve anything close to their level of wealth. Subconscious guilt means they find any possible means to give it away (so long as no black people get any of it).

We also see an increased chance to see a manufactured emergency that postpones the 2020 election indefinitely.

This seems likely to me as well. At this point Trump has put McConnell in an impossible position. He either faces a very difficult reelection (Louisville is in his district and Louisville just beat Bevin basically single handedly state wide, McConnell has half as much territory to dilute it with and is incredibly unpopular) or he impeaches Trump and he loses anyway because GOP base support collapses.

The best outcome for Mitch is Trump resigning so he doesn’t have to choose either option and gets a nice low turnout election with a normalish GOP candidate at the top of the ticket.

I know we all assume Trump has dirt on the GOP and he probably does. But I wouldn’t be surprised if the GOP has dirt on Trump as well. Trump is starting to wear out being the useful idiot. When the GOP is bragging about barely winning races in deep red states, they know they are in deep shit.
