The Presidency of Donald J. Trump: Unconstitutional Slop

They got Oliver Platt too?

ā€œWhen he makes claims like this, the press takes him literally, but not seriously; his supporters take him seriously, but not literally.ā€

They know theyā€™re being treated like shit but as long as liberals and minorities are treated worse, theyā€™re winning.

This makes my stomach turn, not the poll results as much but the responses to that question. It sounds soooooo much like 2004. Kerry nominated not because he was loved but because he was perceived as the only one who could beat Dubya, and similar numbers wrt questions like that; people voting Kerry were hate voting against Dubya. Itā€™s a recipe for disaster.

Iā€™m pretty sure Trump would demand a paternity test no matter what. But especially given who Melania is and who he is. Even if he doesnā€™t have the self-awareness to see that he is an elite cuck candidate, he is surely suspicious of every woman heā€™s ever slept with for the same reason Ben Shapiro diagnoses every girl who self-lubricates as being diseased.

I donā€™t think this is right. For a conservative, Trump is a legitimate authority just trying to get the kids to do what theyā€™re supposed to do. He lies, he deflects, he plays (is) stupid, but they do the same thing to control their subordinates. It would be like if we came after Phil Ivey for how he acts when crushing someone at poker. Except now weā€™re discussing life as though itā€™s all one long con. As long as heā€™s on your side, donā€™t you want him bluffing? Lying? Bullying? Who cares if he canā€™t recite pot odds and never learned how to use a HUD? Heā€™s ultimately fighting for you and appears to be damn good at it. Even his grifting is a sign of his success because his supporters believe that one day, theyā€™ll be grifting just like him as proof of their prosperity.

Because what we need shortly after oil was negative is MORE oil.

This is such a bad idea.

Bad idea with Trump at the helm? You donā€™t say!

I know shocking!

Itā€™s a bad idea for environmental reasons but as already pointed out it makes no sense economically right now either. We have an oil glut, not shortage, for the near term.

I canā€™t tell if this whole anti-mail ballot thing is a concerted GOP tactic or just some dumb thing trump has latched on to to make himself feel better.

Jesus Christ youā€™re fucking stupid. Poll workers will collect the ballots. But who can trust poll workers right?

He just canā€™t deal with the fact that if it was HIM collecting the ballots, well of course heā€™d cheat, why wouldnā€™t he? He canā€™t fathom that other people wouldnā€™t cheat if given the opportunity. Itā€™s basically that way for everything on the right. They canā€™t fathom that thereā€™s actually people who have morals and ethics and actually care about other people.

He says mail-in ballots are okay in Florida. Somebody needs to tell him we have drop boxes for mail-in ballots in Florida. Now that heā€™s telegraphed that heā€™s going to crash the post office to prevent votes from coming in, everybody and their fucking brothers are going to be using the drop boxes.

This another issue with having 70 year old boomers in charge of everything, they will tend to try to use the toolbox from the 1990s to solve the problems of the 2020s. This example of betting on oil in 2020 is a public policy version of telling 23 year olds to buy houses in cities as a way to achieve financial independence.

Speaking of Jon Stewart, am I the only one who partially blames the entire clusterfuck of the last 4 years on him?

He was, without a doubt and backed by polling and such, the most trusted news name amongst the 25-34 year old sector. He was THE guy that people turned to for takedowns of the bullshit that spewed constantly from the right, and then right in the midst of the rise of Trump he justā€¦ leaves?

Like, I know that I come off entitled when I say things like this, but sometimes I feel like if you have made a voice for yourself in a way that protects the public good, sometimes itā€™s your duty to continue doing that thing in the face of any and all challenges.

Joe Biden decides not to run for president after his son dies? I feel ya Joe, but 2016 is your time, and you need to run, heartbreak or not. Jon Stewart wants to go make movies? Sure, take some time off buddy, but we need you to be here and help us through this. You cant abandon your post completely. Michelle Obama doesnā€™t want to be in politics? Iā€™m super sorry about that, but you win this election in a landslide, and sometimes thatā€™s more important than what you want.

Like, Iā€™m an accountant, not because I like accounting, but because Iā€™m good at it and it pays more than what I want to really do for a living and allows me to take care of my family. I do what I need to in order for that to be the thing I do.

Iā€™m probably just being selfish, but Iā€™m not the only one who feels this way, right?

I would need to better understand what those people are or are not doing beyond what you wish they were doing.

Lik Stewart. Is he doing nothing? I canā€™t imagine him doing that job with such sincere conviction and then just stopping. But I can see him old and exhausted. He did a lot. Iā€™m fine if he needed to switch tactics so he can continue to fight, including if he needed to tap out for a while. Weā€™re all strong in different ways at different times. I wonā€™t condemn you for collapsing under a burden you once carried for all of us. Maybe that option isnā€™t there for you anymore.

to me is another version of ā€œpick yourself up by your bootstraps.ā€ Correct me if I have misread you, but I hear you saying for Stewart to pull himself up by his bootstraps for the greater good instead of relentless self interest, but itā€™s the same thing. The only difference is the justification in demanding people do what you think they should be able to do instead of according to the actual terms according to each individual.

This is an interesting take that I was missing from my thinking.

Thanks for posting it.

I donā€™t think itā€™s a good analogy. Asking a super rich guy with connections and talent to ā€œDo that thing you used to doā€ isnā€™t the same demand as most bootstrapping arguments. Some people absolutely can do better than they are currently doing. #notallbootstrapping is impossible.
