Part of me wants to strip pardon power completely, but another part of me realizes that it can be used for really good things when used in good faith. I’d take the trade of Stone walking free for the thousands Obama pardoned for low level drug crimes.
If we ever get an AOC in office and they just pardon literally everyone in on nonviolent drug charges that would be pretty dope.
But yeah its also super dangerous in the hands of an authoritarian so fuck man I don’t know. It would be better to strip it if we can get a big enough majority to pass legislation to release all those people anyways under legislation. So if we get enough of a majority to do that then we can also strip pardon power.
There should be a check on the pardon power. Maybe have the courts ratify the veto or something.
It didn’t take long for me to figure out that I was too ethical to become a lawyer.
