I know I’m in the minority but I think Maher is funny as long as you don’t take him seriously. Like c’mon, how do you not laugh when he dunks on stupid religious people?
Dennis Miller changed after 9/11. I appreciated him making obscure jokes time to time that maybe only 0.001% of his audience would get. But the one person that got the joke would be laughing hysterically. It takes balls to do that.

He is a classic example of bad faith debaters. There are at least a few everywhere you go, even here at our sacred Unstuck. People who enter the conversation without genuine curiosity and interest in a meaningful exchange of ideas. Their base position is “I already know all I need to know to tell you why you’re wrong.”
It used to seem fine to me when me and such folk were in agreement, but all it took was one difference of minds for me to go oh wow, this person is actually an asshole lol. The way we process and discuss information to manifest worthy conclusions isn’t at all the same, and that matters far more to me than unity in conclusions.
I am a proud pontificator and cringe thinking of how often that asshole has been me. Ah well! Back onto the soap box I go. The better to see all of your flaws.

He is sometimes quite good. I mostly enjoyed his film about religion. He just ALWAYS thinks he’s right to the point of hostility. So even if he makes good points or says something that would normally be funny, it comes off as insanely condescending and ruins the humor.

I don’t think that’s true. He’s said numerous times that it takes incredible luck to become rich. He says it every time conservatives rail about pulling yourself up by the bootstraps to stop being poor.
Having said that, Mahar has definitely become comfortable with having money.
Both of these things can be true. I’m not sure it’s even healthy to generate enormous success and not feel at least a little onus.
His show Politically Incorrect was canceled because of a 9/11 joke he made, and from that point on he sees himself as a martyr and spokesman for The Canceled. It’s become the single most important part of the way he sees himself, and because of it he finds himself a fellow traveler with the likes of Bari Weiss, who he has on his show all the time so they can mutually masturbate each other over what heroes they are for being two people who have huge platforms yet see themselves as canceled.
