I think it’s that and something far worse. For Trumpers, every man is a sexual predator. So what kind of predator do they want?
A chauvinistic sexual predator is a leader. Deny it, but proudly deny it. Or acknowledge it, but as proof of your power. A democrat’s sin isn’t that it happened or didn’t happen, but that they would dare to discuss the topic with anything but pride.
I had seen that earlier, but I am apparently too dumb to understand what it meant, so I appreciate spider’s post spelling it out.

Running an actual criminal inquiry into these people is not what they want. That requires delineating the scope of possible wrongdoing, compiling evidence, and airing out a bunch of boring sounding stuff people have already heard about. A real snoozefest.
It’s much more effective to have the specter of scandal hanging over Biden during the election. That way you can have a completely amorphous, (right-wing) media-driven trial with no threshold for legitimate evidence, no concrete accusations that can be disproved, and no clear end to the episode. Just speculation and a never ending parade of new evidence-y stuff.
