So when the NBA found evidence of COVID-19 in one of their arenas they immediately sent everyone there home and shut down their league. Other leagues quickly followed suit. Broadway shut down. Musicians cancelled concerts. And in the three months that have followed, with the pandemic still raging, nobody has been stupid or heartless enough to attempt to pack an indoor arena for an event. And now, in steps Donald Trump, the President of the United States. He can truly lay claim to the title of “Biggest Asshole on the Planet”. And really its not close. Real life? Is this it?

Any time you think "they can’t get away with THIS, you have to ask yourself whether there is a realistic path to any kind of negative consequence. In this case, as always with the Trump Administration, the answer is “absolutely not.” The blatant nature of the offense is in no way tied to the probability anything will happen to the perpetrator.
This has been a long time coming. The GOP is completely backed into a corner after feeding their base racism and conspiracy theories in order to do the tax cuts. The only possible recourse left is the ballot box.

Perhaps I am misremembering but wasn’t Barr a relatively respected person before joining Trump’s administration? I mean I know he was a right wing guy but did he have a long history of being a lunatic?
It is so bizarre how Trump is able to get these guys to completely debase themselves. What is the incentive for someone like Barr? Is it the judges they are installing? Some promise of a fat pay check as a lobbyist?
I honestly don’t get it.
They (and most Republicans) have always been this way. Trump has just proven to them that there are literally no consequences so now they don’t bother holding back.

I mean, he was a partner at Kirkland, so we shouldn’t be entirely shocked.
Trump brought Barr in specifically for this purpose and knew he would do the job as he was also instrumental in clearing Bush 1 and other Iran-Cotra co-conspirators for their crimes.

If left to his own devices, Barr might be a moderately conservative Republicans with a strong belief in the unitary executive, but his reputation is that of a partisan fighter with a specialty in cover-ups.
These people are loyal Republicans and Trump is the Republican Party. so they are loyal to Trump. They have always been hyper-partisan. Now, they have a leader who makes it impossible to pretend to be reasonable. If the next Republican leader is more coherent, they’ll go back to pretending they are rational and respectable.
And the centrists will accept them at their word.
